IMR-4227 question

I'm confused on the 4227 powder. Did Hogdon buy IMR?? Do they still make H-4227, or is IMR-4227 the only one available?? If Hogdon bought IMR, is the powder in the IMR cans like the old H-4227, or the IMR-4227??
Very confusing. I can find IMR-4227, but have not seen any H-4227.
Another question...where the heck is the VV N-120???
Thanks,

Imr-4227

I just got off the Hodgdon website and they did not list H-4227. They do own IMR and they offer IMR-4227 in 1lb @ $18.55 and 8lb @ $130 (Powder Valley) in plastic jugs. No metal cans.

Note; IMR 4227 is made in Canada and Australia. The Aussie version is a tad hotter than the Canadian version.

I have had excellent results using IMR-4227 in my 30ppc this past year in our club score matches.

4227

We went through a pretty good lesson in 4227 a few years back when we used it in our 30PPC's. Here is what we learned.

Hogdon and IMR merged a while back. Hogdon decided to market some powders only with the IMR Label.

We had a couple of older cans of true H-4227, and it shot VERY well in the 30 PPC. We then found that the H-4227 was no longer available, but instead there was IMR 4227 that had "manufactured in Canada" on the label. This powder came in a typical Hodgdon black bottle.

It proved to be at least 2.5 grns slower than the originol H-4227, and did not seem to shoot as well. Then, the IMR-4227, in the same black bottles, showed up with "manufactured in Australia" on the label. This proved to be almost identicle to the originol H-4227 that we had in the beginning. That is what is available now.

However, this stuff shoots great in a 30PPC untill the temperature goes into the mid 90's. Then, you have to be VERY carefull. Let's just say that if you go a couple of tenths over, you will not need a decapping tool.

Vic Smith, who still shoots his 30PPC very well, had enough of the Canadian and Australian to mix 50-50. I must say, it shoots quite well.

As of this time, all 4227 is IMR, made in Australia.............jackie
