IBS vs NBRSA Reciprocity

alf

Huh?
What's the skinny?

Is it, NBRSA accepts IBS, but not vice versa?

But to collect 1000/600 IBS points, you have to be a member of IBS, and not shoot just under NBRSA membership reciprocity, correct?

IBS accepts NBRSA membership to shoot their matches, not sure about the points but I could not imagine anyone having the gall to want to compete for the championship and not be a member of the orginazation they were competing in even if it was allowed. NBRSA does not accept IBS membership.

I would like to make a point here, I would think you would have to belong to the organization or club to be able to get points or an aggregate. While I was president of the Pa. 1000 yard club I was the one that initiated that the IBS and the Pa. club should recognize each others' memberships to be able to shoot at the nationals or the Pa. World Open. But you should have to belong to the club or organization to be able to get points in regular matches.

If one looks at it, what good is there in garnering the points from one event per year or decade? Who cares, one way or the other? Those points will neither help or hurt anyone over the long term. As a wise, younger than me, Sage has said, " If you want to WIN, learn how to Shoot".

Your right Pete, I'm still learning how to shoot! and those points don't mean a thing. I've been shooting for ever it seems and have not made it into our Hall Of Fame, But as I may put it there are guys that have been in the record books and hall of fame that don't even shoot anymore. Guess they don't have anything left to prove or they think there is only one way left to go. Your Heart has to be in it!

Al,
You just stirring $hit or what?:D
Here is what is in the rule book regarding reciprocity.

III) Tournament Procedures
B) Registration
1) All competitors at every Registered Tournament shall be required to complete a registration form supplied by IBS and to produce, for inspection, a current IBS, IBS International or NBRSA Membership Card.
2) The Host Club shall forward to the headquarters of IBS within four weeks of the Tournament, all registration cards together with a registration fee of $2.00 per day.
3) Membership in IBS, IBS International, or NBRSA is required to compete in all Registered IBS Tournaments.

VII) 1000 Yard
F) 1000 Yard Competition
4) Targets and Records
b) Only records shot by IBS members or card-carrying affiliates in IBS sanctioned 1000-yard benchrest matches will be recognized.

2) IBS Awards and Recognition - IBS sanctioned 1000 yard competition only.
(ii)If a shooter elects to become an IBS member it must be done before the match registration time closes in order to receive shooter of the year points and be able to advance to the shoot-offs for that match. If a shooter elects not to become an IBS member they can still shoot. The club should make an honest attempt to explain the process about not being able to advance to the shoot-offs and not earning points to avoid any issues later on. For the IBS National Championships, a shooter may present a current Williamsport membership card to shoot and participate in the event, win Shooter of the Year and Long Range Marksman points and any other honors that the shooter may earn.

There needs to be some clarification to the rules, reading the rule book one could make a good arguement either way.
The way the last quoted section (2) is placed after (4) would imply that thee is some print missing from the rule book. I do not have an old enough rule book to look back and see where it may have disappeared.
If you look at the last sentence in the above quotes it clearly says that a Williamsport member can win shooter of the year which means he is able to accumulate SOY points without being an IBS member. It don't make sense but that is what is in the rule book.

I had planned on writing 2 agenda items and hopefully get one or the other passed to try to clarify this one way or the other but have run out of time to get it submitted this year.

James the last I new Lee Fischer was doing something with accumulating soy points for people that shot in the Nationals from other clubs, he would be the guy to talk too.
