Hey Wilbur

Thanks Wilbur that sort by will help a lot.
I appreciate all the hard work you do to keep such a great site up and going.

Wow.Talk about right time. I was about to give up on the whole searching deal. I've been looking for info on a number of BR subjects and was getting no where fast. Loads of irrelevent threads being pulled out of the data base etc.

Wilbur, My wife (you might remember Ms. Effervescence) wants a digital camera for her 60th birthday. If I get her one, that means I could post some picture of important things like rifles, if only there were instructions.

Now I won't say there aren't picture-posting instructions on the forum somewhere, but I can't find them.

In FAQ might be a good place, no?

TIA

I'll get after that!

Does she still possess that knack of listening to hillbilly drivel as if it were scripture? I remember thinking..."this pretty girl can't possibly be as interested in what I'm saying as she appears." As Leonard Worthy of the rimfire gang once said - "Somebody had to get the best one, may as well be you."

If you haven't figured it out already, I've forgotten her name - Barbara comes to mind ??? Anyway, buy her a nice camera and tell her I said Happy Birthday.

While I'm working on Charles' request, can y'all offer some suggestions for how to resize photos so they will come in under the half gigabyte limit - short of my having to write a document on how to use Photoshop.

Please!

Works for me. Let's me make it big enough to fill my window.

(Wilbur -- sorry for being so social on a shooting forum -- but really, that's half the reason for going to matches. Yup, it's Barbara. Her daddy was from the hill country in Texas. And BTW, she thinks of you as a smart guy, which is perceptive of her. & she still remembers the instruction on filleting fish.)

Ok, most people probably dont have photoshop however USUALLY in the save AS option you find a button somewhere that allows you to compress the jpg to the right size. It may take a time or 2 if yours only shows percentages but its easily done.
About the easiest way to do it with other file formats is to convert to jpg and then do it.
Make sure you look to see what the BRC specs are for max file size in order to keep it under the limit.
A possible alternative if you cant find the detail area that lets you specify the file size is in your graphic program change the viewed size or canvas size of the image until it comes in under the max file size.

Hold on now - what works?

Gonna be hard to explain now, but right before my post, there was a post displaying a thumbnail photo that I believe was labeled "test." I clicked on it and it opened up the picture in an "overwindow." I clicked on that picture and it opened a separate window with the picture, and would automatically size it to whatever size I made the window.

OK - help me test this

I intalled a third party helper for photo uploading. The helper promises to eliminate the need for downsizing the photo prior to upload and some other cool stuff. If you should choose to help test it do the following:

Reply to thread
Go advanced
Type a subject and message body
Scroll down and select Manage Attachments
Click Browse and select files from your PC (preferably files larger than 500K)
Click Upload and wait until the file(s) is/are transferred
Click Close this Window
Click Submit Reply to complete the process

Looks like a hassle but it will become intuitive once done.

Thanks in advance for any effort and will be interested in any problems encountered.

BTW, it looks like there is a limit per user as well as a file size limit. I hope this eliminates the file size limit and can change the user limit when I know more.

Test pictue as per Wilbur's instructions

testAll pictures from old computer 061.jpg

Added later: The instructions in Wilbur's post did not correspond to what I had to do. I didn't see browse. The picture was large enough for a test, and it came through, but the instructions that I followed were pretty much what I have done before when using this site for an attachment. Next I will use a picture from a free web hosting site (photobucket) for comparison. Once you get the routine down, both ways are easy, and not having to downsize is a nice feature.

well hmmph, it worked. And if it works for me it's pretty fool-proof.

(don't say NUTTIN' Boyd)

Another deal is that the plugin creates a slideshow if multiple photos are uploaded together - or, I think, added in the same fashion as the initial photo.

Gotta go to work - wear it out and I'll be back in a while.

OK, I'll try this...

...didn't work. Says 2.75 MB file is too large. Try 700KB file...
that works.
