Please do not take offense at me for deleting your thread, I had already deleted several post in the thread a couple of days ago because the name calling got out of hand, but it started again.

I think your post brought up a good point for Wilbur to consider. I would like to see you ask it again, myself and the other Moderators will try to keep the discussion on a civil level without it degrading into a "us against them" senario.

No offense taken Jackie. It's just a shame that some people have to resort to name calling when a debate they can't handle gets started.

This is another reason why a registered, competitive benchrest shooter forum would be a good thing. One would be a lot less likely to call someone dirty names if they knew that they just might run into them someday at a benchrest match! No more hiding behind a computer! Just a thought....;)

goodgrouper,
I don't feel that a "registered, competitive benchrest shooter forum" would be a good idea, because there would still be the same dozen or so of us that are here now( it's not like Tony is gonna log on) and what would we talk about ? What we're gonna have for lunch ? That's what "registered competitive benchrest shooters" talk about at "registered competitive benchrest shoots". We don't need to share info cause we're all on the same wave length anyway ! What the average Joe is lookin for is confirmation that he is doin something right or wrong,so that he has the confidence to go out and compete and that is what this game needs---new guys to compete! Give a "newbie" confidence that his bench set up and loading procedures are correct and get his mind set "into the wind" and He will be as competitive as you or I.
BR central is the perfect environment to encourage this activity and I personally welcome any and all potential shooters out there to share in my experience and knowledge and I would hope that all R.C.B.S'ers would do the same.

Joel,

I agree with some of your points. But my intent with having a sub-forum for us was not so much for the benefit of us but for the fellows who get on this site for information and just read. My concern was that these guys could be and are getting bad information from a few fellows who POSE as real shooters. By making a sub-section that only REAL competitors are allowed to post in, the information would be a little more factual if not at least a little more responsible. As you say, when we want to talk to each other, we talk at the matches and we're all generally on the same page. But the poor folks that come here to read don't have a membership list of the competitors in hand and are bound to take some bad advice from the "other" camp.

I don't know if this problem is even fixable, or if we should even try. I just thought I'd throw it out there for people to talk about. But after talking to Wilbur, I don't think it's plausible even if it was a good idea, because, as you say, only a small percentage of registered competitors ever come here. We can go back and look at any thread and see basically the same 20 names or so. The vast majority of NBRSA and IBS shooters don't come to this site. I've heard many discussions at matches why this is but they don't need to be repeated here now. Just suffice it to say that my idea simply doesn't have the material base to work as intended. But that's fine. It's still an entertaining site to come to if nothing else.

Well put Joel.............now what's for New Years lunch???:D
Happy New Year to everyone.

Goodgrouper

Now if you had a "registered, competitive benchrest shooter forum" how would the regulate membership.......after all not very many International shooters are members of NBRSA or IBS.......but I still see more than just US shooters at the WBC competitions.

Or would this new forum be limited to just US competitors??????

Now c'mon Gerry, This is a serious thread and the whole world is watching.
Is that Camillus 'kraut really that old ?

Nobody wants to acknowledge...

...but the Blog feature has exactly what goodgrouper is talking about. Anybody can create a Blog, say what it's for and control the posters therein by invitation. At least I think that's what it does. I just bought the darn thing - never had time to figure it out.

Let's suppose we created a subforum that restricted non-members of major BR organizations. The question then becomes - who's next on the restricted list?

Once again just my $.02 worth on the subject...
In the Competition Benchrest Forum let (encourage) the moderators use their better judgement about threads that don't have anything (realistically) to do with "competion benchrest" to delete or move those threads. I believe that the moderators were chosen by you for their fairness and being level headed.
Thanks
Mark

As far as I know, our options are to delete a post or thread, or leave it. I am not aware of any tool that would let me move a post.

I really didn't know the full operation of this site, some sites can move threads, some can't. This option may have not been enabled yet, thats really none of my business, but the ability to delete the thread is still there. Why not use it when someone posts there about squirrel hunting or their favorite Savage hunting rifle. JMHO.
Thanks again
Mark

Post

I can delete posts, edit post, or cancel an entire thread, but I have no Moderator Function that allows me to move a thread.........jackie
