Free recoil won't work

shooting

don if you get me fixed up and i start shooting right then i wont be able to blame my great stock for my screwups any longer. are you then going to make me a champion shooter. is it this easy surely not?

having fun now i love my don stith suhl stock. is this sport this simple you can do it over the net i love this!!!

I do not touch a thing other than the tip of my left index finger to the trigger. I do not look thru the scope while firing. Wind switches don't creep up on me so easily this way. Still misread or misalign and get bit. I just can not look thru the scope and keep track of all the flags at the same time. My multi-tasking days are behind me. I know the rifle is not going to jump around, so see no need to stare thru the scope.

im getting more confused all the time. so here is this what i am hearing. you set the rifle on the rest. get it all locked up the best you can, get the dot on the targer, take your eye off the scope head off the stock take the tip of your left forefinger and bang is this it? and all the time you can just look around? this seems so easy and simple.

is the stock against your shoulder through all of this? are you using a pinch method on the trigger.

man i should be a champion shooter in a couple of weeks with this method. are the big hitters in the sport using this method? i can go after those huge dollar prizes in the b/r game.

very helpful info but hannibal folks are just ike that. now don some of this is just funny i hope you know that this isnt a simple sport and most poor shooters blame their equipment when it between their eyes.

like all competitios its all mental and prep before the shoot. even exersize.

bob

Bob, I see you're just down the road a piece from St Louis Benchrest Club. I'd suggest you look at the schedual and drop in for a little intensive education from some of the best. Most everyone there will help you all they can.

Bob
I am not very heavy and not into hitting, so don't know what a heavy hitter is or what one does.. If no part of me is touching the rifle but the tip of my finger, how can I be pinching or shouldering? If it ever thaws out up in OX-Vassey give it a try.
I am so clumsy. I have to eliminate every possible personal influence on the firing process.
I rarely win anything,so my technique probably is not very good. Now that puts us back into blaming ammo and equipment.
Good joshing with you my friend.

shooting

don

thanks don i get it and don metzger thank you too. you might give me some of your tips too i know you are a great shooter. i see your scores wow. to do that.

im going to give you a story. stith you may know of this man his name was leo smith lived in pittsfield il a great electicion and my friend. he was a great duckhunter used a fox double 12 gauge.

his friend liked to duck hunt too but he couldnt hit a damned thing. so he went out a bought a browning superposed guess what he still couldnt hit a damned thing.

leo got such a laught out of it. so the theory is the finest equipment in the world wont make you a great shooter. it whats in that head of yours to make you what you are.

by the way don the cornbelt bank in pittsfield went out of business or closed down this week they have been there forever things very bad now.

your friend

heavy hitters

don

in the sales business heavy hitters are the big producers sorry about that so anyone successfull in my mind is a heavy hitter a winner a contributer.

bob

charge

don metzger do they charge? my neighbor is a great shooter i mean great but he wont coach me at all. he is the most non sharing person i have ever met i just dont understand him.

he shoots sil at the b/r club in st. louis or wentzville you know i may just take my wife and go is it free admission?

bob

Free to watch but someone will twist your arm to shoot the match. They will probably set up a rest and great gun and show you how to use it. Registered matches are about 5$ a target and you should pay for your ammo. Check the schedual on the ARA website. Looks like St Louis has not posted their schedual yet but Owensville and United Sportsmen have theirs posted and they are pretty close too.

4 Classes

There are those young kids, that don't know it can't be done and then the next age group that's going to find a better way to do things without working at it, and then those that have learned the hard way and have taken many an old timers advice, and finally, those of us that can't remember why we showed up. We stop and think ( I know that's a bad sign) a minute a say "Was I coming or Going".

funny

fred thats funny. did you notice don metzger didnt give me any coaching he is going to make me go to a shoot to learn.

just kidding don no offence intended.

bob

The best way to learn

Bob:
There's no better way to learn technique, than to go to a shoot and observe as well as partisipate. Then every chance you get, you Practice, Practice, Practice.
Now I don't care who you are, now that's fact, not funny. One thing you might need to know, is I'm one of those old farts, that's been there done that.

kidding

hey i was just kidding around i said i respected him and his ability i can in no way do that. read my post. he was one of the top shooters way past what i can do!

don stith is helping me some i dont know if he can cure my ills or not but he is trying.

lighten up a little i respect every man here that can stand the pressure of b/r im not going too but i want a little help and im getting it.

Fred,

That's one of your best posts I've seen. Been thru the first three stages and am in the deep end of the pool on the last stage. Seemed to do better before I knew I couldn't.:)

cwop,

Fred is right, no better way to learn than to shoot, especially in a match. Go try it, you will be pleasently suprised. You will never see a bunch of competitors more willing to help you beat them than rimfire benchresters. No substiute for trigger time in this game. Buy a bunch of ammo and shoot it.

b/r

fred

i have no desire to compete against the such as don metzger i am 67 years old too late now with bad eyesight. i was jesting with don and someone took exception to it matter of fact i reread my post and i said nothing out of the way if i had i would have apologized profusely.

i know perfectly well what would be involved to be a champion shooter i cant do it but i play around in my backyard fortunate huh?

i can buy any rifle i want and i have clear up to a calfree but that isnt going to make me a champion shooter but i wanted it could afford it and bought it.

God bless you guys that can shoot but lighten up this is a hobby also you know. whats with all the picking adn snide remarks?

bob

Bob, no one took your remarks as anything but jesting and you should not take any remarks to you as any more than just advice. There are a lot of shooters in BR that have eye problems and are older than 67. To be a champion you need a good gun, good ammo and and a lot of practice in reading the wind. It is a mental thing with patience and knowledge seperating the winners and the also rans. How does the saying go, Age and cunning will beat youth and enthusiasm every time.

Since you had to repeat

Bob:
I'm a bit older than you, and I've been blind in one eye for 15 years. I have had cataracts in both eyes, 17 eye surgeries including two cornea transplants that failed, During this time, I just buckled down, doing what I often encourage people to do, and that is to get committed to what you like to do, and then practic, practice, practice. So if you have a small eye problem, go see your opthamologist and get it corrected. You'll see 100 % better than I do, and you'll be able to enjoy the many beautiful things about this sport.

good

bob finger and others

i get it and i just am not able or committed enough to spend the countless hours even learning this sport let alone being one of the big hitters in it. it seems whatever sport is taken up there is just people that have first of all a natural ability to excell. good for you and them but as in anything attitudes and egos tend take over. some of you guys have shot all your life maybe for 60 years its second nature to you but not to me. if you are a champion stay humble. i talked to voelker over the phone a pretty good br man and even with my stupid questions nothing but respect!

bob finger apparently you are a ham i am too as noted by your 73 not 73s. as you know ham radio can get really expenseve try this 200 ft. rotating towers at 20k a clip a dedicated money rich ham might have 2 of them.

then you get to the equpmemt i wont even discuss that, next the final amplifier driven by another amplifier. the final amp will put out power greater than a commercial radio station. this is illegal by the way but with the some of the big hitters who cares. these guys invariabley get an attitude but a lot of them win contests!

final cost 50k and those guys dont blink an eye to do what win contests and see their name in print. i know what it will take to be a great shooter but nir 1 i just dont have that abiltiy to shoot but i like to shoot.

i detect some very generous men here and they recognize what has been said and asked by me. these are the ones when asked a simple question give a simple plain answer with no remarks attached or digs.

so you great shooters carry on do your thing but remember your comments and actions are noted by others that may be seeking some simple answers and advice dont we all start somewhere?

some of these might be beginners who get the brush off to never return due to bad attitudes and huge egos and the sport looses. not me but maybe a potential champiion.

i am close to the st. louis gun club and i intend to go but not as a shooter if the best of everything is a sport is gathered in a place i go to observe the best. i want to see this shooting!

so be patient with us even though we may not be shooters you want we take and are intitled to advice to improve our backyard shooting. i owe not one apolagy to any one person here. we buy things too to keep the sport of shooting alive and well.

thank you 73 and 88s and many happy qso s in the future

bob barnes k0wtz a ham of 60 years and i do know how to do that and anyone is welcome to visit my home or ask me for information or advice about my hobby and treated wth humble respect to improve my hobby of many years.
