Till Tim and Stan can answer, they use a double button. The button first forms the grooves then a follower burnishes the surfaces. Read up on the machine manufacturing process of burnishing.
Burnishing is a mechanical process that accomplishes several desired things.

The barrels I am referring to are the ones Douglas was cutting,before anyone was using the button process. These barrels were (bore honed) BEFORE they were cut. Douglas claimed this process was different than traditional lapping as we know it. I believe after Douglas died,Tim's dad discontinued this process. The information I am sharing here came from Douglas himself.
