degreasing ideas.....epoxy

I worked at Berkeley National Laboratory for a bit as mechanical engineering technician. While not related to bedding rifles, we would have most parts already ultra high vacuum cleaned, but when it came time to use Torseal, or Blue Death, both of which are two part low outgassing adhesives, we always wiped with ethanol alcohol and then acetone. Always seemed to work well.

Acetone is one of the 'cleaner' solvents available in bulk at reasonable prices.

The manufacturing process does not leave a lot of 'junk' in the product.

Detergent

Dish washing detergent and hot water is going to clean grease and oil better than anything, and it it safe.

So in your opinion washing the action with dish soap is adequate for gluing in an action? I've been soaking them in MEK for days.......

Not even close to the level of many solvents.

When you need stuff cleaned to mass spec undetectable levels of cleanliness it gets to be a real PITA to do it reliably.

We used to have to clean the chemicals first in a lab through ceramic filters.

Sometimes many times.

Think of trying to desalinate water.
A lot of filters and a lot of pressure.

OK, thanks.

PPM (part per million) levels of contamination can easily effect epoxy bond strengths.
We used to bond cable attachment points to military aircraft surfaces.

Every batch of epoxy had to undergo testing after it had been used with multiple test samples depending on how many devices had been bonded.
Generally at least 10% or so of bonds made with a floor of five or seven.

Make one bond you have to make at least five test samples to verify the epoxy.

Yes, if your trying to get rid of grease ans oil detergent will do the best job. It releases the surface tension so it can float away. Also use water as hot as you can stand to open the pores.

Seems to be a lot of fly it the pepper here

Just curious. What's wrong with just regular spray contact cleaner.

It's what I use.

Well, ya know..... sometimes I'm just DUMB!

That's why I ask for help :)

It never even crossed my mind. I've used aerosol ether, carb cleaner, BrakeKleen etc.

If you could give me a brand name I will be get me some!
