started to customize a cz 452 trainer. a new Stith stock has been received. this stock is made from paulownia wood and is a fraction the weight of the original beech stock. with the action and barrel, the barrel lug and rear sight is being machined off. the front sight hood and post have been removed. the tang area will be drilled and tapped. this area is not very thick but several threads will hold it. the stock will be pillered and bedded by master classstocks with an aluminum butt plate. bkl 257 rings will be used and a pentax 4.5x14x scope will top it off. for action screws we will use j&p custom allen bolts and replace the bolt spring with one of theirs. a brooks trigger upgrade has been done and the trigger is creep free at 7.0 ounces. we are undecided on replacing the sear hoping a 2.0 ounce trigger is in the future. will take some pics as we go along and plan a uniqe way of pillering and bedding. completion is expected after the new year. for anyone thinking about making weight on a sporter you have to see and feel this paulownia stock, it's like holding balsa wood. Don did a great job on this.

Here is a AS from www.rimfiretechnologies.com the spring is a .95 cent spring from Ace hardware #144 I got 7 oz from this. With the second to last lightest spring in the Yodave kit I got 3 oz, It is a great way to go while you wait for that trigger.
Here is a Stith stock I put on a 452 CZ

what wood did you go with on that stock? it looks like your are using one action screw? have you bedded the stock and what model 452 is that. the reason I selected the trainer is weight and accuracy should come under 7.5 lbs and was a fairly consistant 235 shooter on the usbr targets. thought the lux with 28.6" barrel would not make weight. did not like the dovetail milled into the tang of the american.

What ammo does your cz like the best at 50 yds.

Thanks Snoman

the lux, fs, and trainer will shoot eley team, club and sk+ and lapua master all well. the american is fussy and only shoots the lapua brand. I have pretty much only shot match ammo from them. even the sk pistol match shoots well. have not tried the rws 50 or the fiocchi target grade.

Theron, thanks for posting the pic, just got that back from having the tang drilled and tapped. there is 3 threads at the rear tang, will have to make sure on tourqing. the rear sight and barrel lug was milled off. so it's off for bedding and I'll finish it. with the machine work and all components, price of rifle, new stock plus scope and rings total price will come in a little over a grand. will it shoot with some of the custom rigs? hope to find out soon. these cz's with the not to easy stock and trigger are amazingly accurate rifles. figure the weight with scope and all 6.5 lbs

your cz

this should be interesting. there are a lot of cz shooters out there but im not sure if any have tried this or competive shooting.

not too bad on cost if you can make it shoot.

Bob, I think several have gone the 10.5lb bench route. that stock from Don Stith is only a fraction the weight of walnut or another hardwood. plus by machining the rear sight and barrel lug that cuts down on additional weight and moves the rifles balance rearward. the barrel length on that is 24.5" and with that stock there is a chance the 28.6" lux would be under 7.5 lbs.

Hey Martin. I am doing the same thing you are with one of Don's stocks. My rifle is the varmit version with a tapered bull barrel.

My gunsmith is bedding it now. I also am trying it with only the action bolt holding it down. I put a Rifle Basix trigger on it and have it set just tight enough to engage the trigger when a round is chambered. I am new to the sport and have only been shooting since this Spring. Can't remember exactly, but I think I have shot a 213 so far with the factory stock.
I would be really interested to see if anyone has made a real competitor out these guns. Or at least an opinion as to there potential compared to the standard Anschutz, Win, and Suhl's. I'll post a pic when I get it back.

Good post. Thanks, Bob

Bob, at anderson creek last month using a cz full stock I shot a 242 12x. took 1st. and was shooting against a couple 52b repros and a few annies and a brno. that fs is my 3rd accurate cz with the trainer and lux far more accurate. they have a skinny forearm but you can utilize a stop with them. my best with the trainer has been 237 on a usbr target. would like to have used the lux but was not sure it would make weight. had mulled the idea and had talked to Don Stith about one action screw. let us know if one works it would make customizing these cz's easier. I beleive theron is getting close to test firing his I beleive these cz's may suprise some. hope so anyway.

He is, to use his words, "bedden the S$#^ out it". He is doing it a couple of stages??? instead of trying to bed it all at one time. Advised me to let it sit for 4 or 5 days before I crank it off to let everything harden really well. Then he said not to take it apart unless I absolutley had to. I hope to get back this week.

Congratulations on the win Martin. So far my job is to keep some other poor guy from being in last place:)

Oh well... keeps me humble. I'll get there some day.

Maybe we can talk Bill Calfee in to building a CZ some day.

in the first pic that is showing where the tang was d&t there are 3 threads anyone doing this will need to watch tourqing. none of my cz's are over 20lbs.

Well here she is. Weights exactly 7.5 on a baby scale but I don't have a butt plate on it yet. Feels solid as a rock. Hard to tell in the photo, but i has 8 hand sanded coates of automotive clearcoat on it that looks a mile deep.

Now to see if it will shoot?
