Burris HBR scope

I see the dot and fine plex scopes for the 6x HBR.

Never used a dot scope. And never shot HBR. Which one do you suggest?

My pick....

Either the Leupold 6x HBR scope with the dot or the Weaver T6 with dot. Both have 1/8 min clicks. However the Leupold has a 4" eye relief and the Weaver has a 3" eye relief. With a forceful recoiling 30/47 HBR rifle you kinda have to get back a bit with the Weaver to keep from getting smacked.

Both are fine scopes with very repeatable adjustments and having used both with a fine cross hair and a dot; I prefer the dot.

Another thing to keep in mind

is that the Leupold is the only current IN PRODUCTION 6X scope. There are a lot of new Weavers out there, and the Burris has been out of production for a couple years. Burris will not even service their old HBR scopes now. They want NOTHING to do with the BR community.

For my money, find an original T-6 (steel) send it to Optical Services in NM, and have Ackerman do his magic all the way thru the scope. Tiny dot, fine crosshairs, blueprint. You will then have the best HBR scope ever made.

Then they have reversed couse again.

Not sure how recent your facts on Burris repairing a 6X are but I sent one to Burris after the Highly successful, best in my memory IBS Nationals in Webster City, Iowa and they fixed it rather quickly.

They were not touching HBR's or HBR-II's a year ago

They did two for me

Just before I went to Iowa; warantee work it was. I have another to go to them when I get back home.

I'm sorry I didn't buy two or three more Sightrons when they were being blown out. I prefer them to any 6X scope I have owned and I have been through a bunch of them. If you see a Sightron for sale, BUY IT! I have had good luck with the Burris' I have owned as well; no complaints from me with regard to them. Have yet to see a brand that didn't have some problems now and then.

I will say this.

I have had a coupleof 6x Burris HBR scopes apart, and they had the best gimble support joint for the erector tube that I have ever seen. Massive, and tight.......jackie

David, make that another recommendation for Burris' customer service. Sent my "wondering" mini to them after the Nationals & they fixed the problem plus went through the rest of it. Got it back in 2-3 weeks. Maybe something has changed with their service.

And I will publically state

That my personal experience w/ Burris has tainted what I said. They had great optics and a less than stellar service record. Glad to hear they are working on them again

My 2009 Burris service

experience is I sent a 6X24 variable back to them twice asking to have the AO set to go at least as low as the marked 50 yards. Both times it was sent back stating checked at 100 yards and was acceptable. Even talked to the service manager before and after the second trip. My tape measure says 65 yards is minimum focus distance. Still same as it was when I first sent it in the first time. Trying to shoot 50 yards rimfire benchrest requires 50 yard focus. So I have a 6X24 with really good optics as safe queen. $550 new and can't use it for what I bought it for. Might put it on my .22BR prairiedog gun. Anybody want to reset it for me. I called several shops and no takers. Max

Leupold has EFR (Extended Focus Range) scopes for use that is intended to be close range ie rimfire BR or silouette. I don't know the specs on the Burris you have, but most of the scopes I have seen that are Adjustable Paralax have a minimum range of 50 yds/m. Have your considered an EFR type scope for the needs you have with that rifle?

I will say this:

In the past, I have sent scopes back to Burris only to have them returned the way I sent them. It is very disconserting to explain in detail what the problem is and having it being so obvious that if whoever handled the problem had only taken the scope out of the box and handled it they would have easily seen the problems. It was obvious to me that no one had or they would have felt the AO that could barely be moved or the turrets that had lost their ball detent feel.

All that said, I feel I have had great results with the ones I have had owned. I have 8 of them currently, two of which are frozen. I have 3 Sightrons and a Modern Leup with a premier dot in it. Some of the scopes came in trades and some I bought. I have probably owned at least a dozen Burris HBR scopes over my 12 years of shooting and only had 2 go bad. After the thrashing the HBR rifles give them, one has to expect some problems with any of them; except the two I have frozen. I am close to having the Mount problem solved so they should prove to be the cat's PJ's. I have used one of them a bit and liked it. That rifle wasn't that stellar this year and I have just too many rifles now to properly stay ahead of the tune on them. I need to thin down :), (pun intended)
