best places for 30br bullets.

who has the best prices on 30br bullets? who seems to be winning with one brand more is what i should say.

The bullets that your are looking for are pretty much sold by the fellows that make them, so if you want a particular bullet you pay the asking price. The bullets have done the best work in that caliber recently are 112 grain BIBS Bullets, made by Randy Robinette. What sort of 30 BR are you shooting? Do your compete? As you probably know, top accuracy is the result of ALL of the components performing at the highest level. I guess that my point is that for you to see the superiority of the best bullets, you need to load, and tune to the highest level, for a rifle of the very best quality, otherwise the difference will get lost in the noise.

nope. i had been on just the rimfire section for about 4 years. i'm stepping over into the centerfire next year. i'm going to have a new custom built rifle put together this year. i have a rockcreek hv 17 twist barrel that should be in this week and a krieger barrel ordered. still looking at actions. i've hand loaded before for every rifle i own so that isn't new to me.
 
I think that they are all good, at least I have never got any bad ones. The problem is availability due to the jacket shortage at the moment. I have used BIB, Euber, Cheek, Fowlers and 10x, all have shot well. Each barrel is different and you will have to see what your barrel wants, if you have other shooters near you, you can probably get a small amount from them to try. The one thing that you need to do is get some bullets ordered now so that when you have the gun ready you have something to shoot, the same goes for powder and primers. Never wait until you need something in this game to try to buy it, a sure way to be disappointed. Good luck with the new gun, Steve
 
my point was, that if you would read the forums, you would have your answer. on the competition forum there are three threads on a potential world record shot this past weekend with a thirty. two of the threads do talk bullets.
 
As far as prices.....
Since the winning bullets are hand made, they are usually sold by their makers for whatever the maker deems appropriate. Lately $300 to $350 per thousand is the going price.
With a few minor exceptions you usually won't find them for sale at a reseller. For example Cheaper Than Dirt or Midway don't sell any custon BR Bullets.
 
You also need to try different ogives. My rifle shot ok with Bib 118/10 but really came to life when I went to Cheek's 112 7 ogive.
 
If I were going to shoot a 30 calibre in Bench rest competition I would find out what kind of bullets Jackie Schmidt is shooting.

well they are BIB's......and i would guess at this point the line is long and randy is gonna start working long hours.

i shoot BIB's too....but fire form with speer tnt's.

i have some BOB C's out of the bay area, and some berger's.

unless the gun shoots excellent with the first bullet you try, you need to be prepared to try different bullets.

i don't think( dangerous idea) that there is ONLY ONE world class 30 cal bullet on the market....

I bet the line is long and getting longer. I'm glad I put in an order back in the March/April time frame. :)
 
Berger bullets are not technically a custom bullet, but they perform as well as some others. I started shooting my 30BR with the 118 gr. Bergers, later moved to Eubers. But, I don't think you can go wrong starting with Bergers, which are readily available.
 
I object

to paying Custom Made prices for Machine Made bullets so I won't buy Bergers. They should be more in line with Speer TNT pricing, IMHO. If we don't speak up, nothing will change.

What you do with your money is your choice. Thanks for sharing. But your reason for your opinion is a different matter.

Is machine as good as hand made? It depends on the machine. In general, do you think CNC's outperform manual lathes? Just as good as?

The machines Berger uses are different than the machines used by Sierra or others. Designed differently, Walt Berger went some distance to get the equivalent of "operator feel' in the design.

And as for "feel," when he makes 30s anyway, Brady Knight uses a hydraulic press. Is that then a "machine"? Brady isn't alone in this, and the "feel" is lessened to gone with a hydraulics.

As far as "feel" goes, remember when Fowlers ruled the 6mm world? Now if you think Jef pulled the handle, I've got some nice oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you. Jef set up the dies. Pulling the handle was farmed out.

FWIW, Roy Darnell just won our last club match shooting .30 Bergers -- 250-12x Oh yes, those 12 X's were at 200 yards.

Now I happen to use BIBs. My barrels like them. And I like Randy, I've been using his bullets in both 30 and 6mm for a long time. My first thought is to try BIBs. But competition is serious business. if I had a barrel that liked Bergers, I sure wouldn't toss it because those bullets were "machine made." As far as I'm concerned, It is worth having some Bergers around to test in your barrels.

Best Prices or Winning Brand

Pick One you really cannot have both.

I find Speer 125 TNT to be great, and inexpensive but the flyer every 6th or 7th shot will kill you in a match.
