Awards For Club Match.. Need Opinion on These Two.

I am going to start giving some nice "trinket" to shooters who shoot a clean 250 during our Tomball Club Matches, NBRSA Varmint for Score Matches, and HBR Matches.

I have broken it down to these two. First would be a nice 1 inch diameter hat pin, with Tomball Gun Club on the outer perimeter, and a big "250" in the middle. It will be in three colors, baked enamel. Quite attractive.

The second would be a nice coffee mug with the Tomball Gun Club Emblem, accompanied by some nice "Tomball Gun Club" lettering. On the back would be a fancy "250", or something to that affect. Think about that sitting on your work bench, strategically placed so all your buddies can't help but notice.

I have to order what will amount to 3 years worth to get the good cost break, so I want to get it right.

Do you think shooters would like these?? Which do you think will be "most desireable".

Both sound good. Maybe order some of both and give them thier choice. When a person shoots two 250 scores they could have both. Also your order might need to be quit largeas lots of 250's are being shot these days.

Pins

I vote for the pins.

You can only drink out of one coffee cup at a time but a whole hatful of those pins will strike abject fear into your fellow competitors. :)
Course those same fellow competitors will probably have a whole hatful of them as well. :(

Actually, they both sound good but the pins do appeal to me. I applaud your efforts to create recognition of good scores at your match.

Joe

Looking forward to the next match!

I agree with Joe. Go with the hat pins.

Jackie,
My suggestion is this: both... meaning you recieve a coffee cup for the first 250 and a pin for every 250 shot there after. Or you could do a coffee cup and a pin for the first one and then pins for every one there after.

That may not be cost effective for you and I fully understand that. And the above is a little harder to keep track of who has done what and what award should they recieve.

My reasoning for the above is this: overall climate of guns in general. Have the winner of the coffee mug take it to work. Benchrest shooters come from all over and have various types of jobs. Myself, I work in a technical field around a bunch of geeks to put it mildly. They are not shooters/hunters in general and may or may not be "favorable" to guns in general.

Here is a little story that happened to me at work that benefitted "guns" and helped with the perspective of hey shooters aren't really a bunch of crazies running around in camo all the time shooting everything they see.

I keep my long range shooting schedule tacked on my wall at work and when projects are being scheduled by the Project Managers I'll will look at my shooting schedule and tell them that isn't a good weekened because I have a shooting match that weekend or something to that effect. And this actual scenario happened me to where one of the PMs who was female (and reading between the lines of general conversation she probably votes on the left side of the ticket) asked me about afterhours availability to support a customer. Well one day she asked me about scheduling some work and I when through the above routine of checking my schedule. She then asked me, "did you saying shooting match?" and I told her briefly about the types of matches we hold and we shoot all over the country and I've done it since I was 10-12 yrs old etc etc. Just a brief conversation but it broke the ice. Because she asked me about shooting instead of me just randomly telling it.
Well since that day that PM has always asked me on Mondays if I had a match the previous weekend and how did I do. This scenario has played out many times at work now with various people I work with and now a lot of people ask how i did, or how was my last trip out west etc etc. This happenes in the break room or during office parties to where management is aware of this now.

But the moral of the story is I had something at work that peaked someones curiousity and started a positive conversation. Because the other person started the conversation. A coffee mug will do that also. I know because in 2003 I shot in the NBRSA 1000yd Nationals at the Colorado Rifle club in Byers, CO we recieved a coffee mug that has "Colorado Rifle Club - 75th Anniversary" on one side and 2003 1000yd Nationals on the other. That mug has started up many conversations that are positive in nature toward guns/shooting. Because I walk around with that coffee mug into various meetings and break rooms.

But you only need 1 coffee mug and then the pins are nice to wear if you are into that. We get the same 1" diameter enamel pins for winning a 1000yd relay to advance to the shootoff. Have many of them here at the house. Myself I don't wear a hat so they sit here.

long winded story but I hope you get the jist of the story about positive influence at work with the mugs. Pins are nice but they are worn mostly to shooting matches only so they don't develope much outside influence of the normal shooting buddies you have. That is my perspective on them.
The other thing I thought of is for seasonal or yearly champions at Nationals or jsut maybe your clubs yearly overall champion is to make them a nice business casual shirt with some embroidery stating the championship they won or somethig like that. Then they wear it out into the public veiw or at work and again startup a positive conversation about guns/shooting. Its a small influence, but we have to start somewhere. The Communist New Network (CNN) and all the others sure are not "on our side" with positive messages about legal and fun firearms usage.

again may not be cost effective and this is only my thoughts. Anything you do will be positive for the shooters at Tomball. Just throwing this out there for your consideration in making your decision. Hopefully see you back at Mickey's range again sometime.

Steve

cups

I like the idea of the cups. I would also be intrested to see if you could have me one make special with like 200 or 220 something like that if I ever get enough gas money to make it from tyler again cause I aint never going to shoot 250 with this ole deer rifle LOL!! Good to hear from you guys and hope to see you soon I think both are great ideas Buddy Dotson Tyler Texas

3 classes

By the way do you all still have the 3 gun classes? are they the same as year before last and when does your new year start for the score matches? Buddy

Jackie - I still have two glasses (smoked glass with gold graphics) in the kitchen cabinet that I won in the late 1970s at the Greenville Gun Club that Ed Watson had done...they were really nice. I pour a beer or two into them occasionally.

I am not a pin person so..

Maybe a mug to the winner and pins for the places?

Buddy

I was going to post the Club Match schedule as soon as everything was finalized by our BOD. But, as of now we have the exact same dates as last year, with the addition of a 5th match on the first Sunday Morning in March. (all club matches are on a first Sunday of the month). So, they will be:

February
March
June
August
October

The Format and Classes are exactly the same. 100 yrd for score, Factory Class, Modified Class, and Benchrest Class. $15 entry Fee

Tell all of your friends........jackie

will do thanks Buddy
PS: can you get me a mug and leave off the 250? we can use a magic marker and just write in the actual score? just a thought since 250 is out of the question LOL

Great Idea

Jackie -

I like both of them. I don't know the best way to determine which one when - maybe let the winner choose if that won't mess up your economics. In either case I think any shooter would very pleased to get either one and would proudly display whichever one it is.

Thanks for all your good work making this program such a succes at our club.

I want one of each. Now, if I can find a way to shoot that first "clean". :)

Only the NBRSA Varmint for Score and the NBRSA HBR Matches are Registered, these pins will be for them as well.

Under no circumstances are we going to register a "club match". That is the reason they are club matches, so we can have a more relaxed atmosphere, while still maintaining the Competition and Safety that matches require.

That is the good thing about Score. If you are able to sit down and shoot a 250 under match conditions, it's real. No "how do I know you put five in there", you either hit that 10 ring, or you don't.

I have about settled on a nice 1 inch diameter pin, with a Cobolt Blue background, "Tomball Gun Club" on the outside perimeter, in gold letters, and a big "250" in the middle, also in gold.

I can get enough to last 3 years for a pretty good price. We will give them away at our NBRSA Varmint for Score MatchS, Our HBR matches, and our five Club Matches.

Thanks for the e-mails and input........jackie

I like the Pin.
But what about Stickers for the shooting boxes?
You could have a "50-5X" sticker for the match classes and a "Factory 50" for the factory class guys.

Ted

PS Be carefull going to Home Depot these days. See my Scam alert post on the General Discussion board

Jackie....

Do you feel O.K..... or what have you done with Jackie???:D

I've been reading your post for a few years now, your point of view has changed recently.

Not sayin it's a bad thing...

Well...

The Jackie I know was adamant that the only powder for a 6PPC was VV-133, dumped from a measure directly into the case without weighing and that all matches should be registered. Then again I may have misread you.
