anschutz 64mpr vs suhl

a friend of mine had it for sale. i couldn't let it get away from me. it is piller bedded and glass bedded for the old rifle that was in it. i was ganna put a skin coat on it to form it for my rifle. after today i aint doing nothing but shooting it!!!!

i don't have a clue. i will ask him the next time we shoot together(hopefully next week). i really do not think it is a don stith stock because it set him back alot more than what don charges for his stocks. i will say if you are looking for a stock don stith makes a really great stock. you couldn't go wrong with one of his. you could have somebody put pillers in it for you and glass bed it, and you'd have a great stock.

My Benchmark barrel I have on my Suhl 150 action is maybe a hair more accurate than what my original Suhl barrel was. The Benchmark has shot more groups in the .1's, but the Suhl has shot some 5 shot groups at 25yds that I doubt the Benchmark could match. ;)

i'm out shooting the 50 yard mark this time a year, and i don't shoot groups unless i'm testing ammo now. the rest of the time we are shooting ir 50/50 practice targets. we shot some ara targets today. that was a barrel of fun!! the wind was crazy!! i saw all 3 flags pointing in different direction at the same time several times today!!!! that is a stop and wait moment for me!!!

what is the groove on your barrel?

I have a 6 groove 26" 16.5" twist Benchmark barrel.

It's a hummer. It will easily shoot in the .1's with good ammo from what I have seen on good days.

The Suhl barrel shot these even though it's only 25yds, it lets you know what your rifle is capable of when wind isn't as much a factor.

I doubt many a custom barrel will do any better and very few would beat those.

That first one was .021 from being all through the exact same hole.

The first ome I put the Weaver T36 crosshair on the center of the .100 10 ring and had the gun shooting a little low so not to shoot out my aiming point. The second group was shot on another day and I hit where I was aiming which makes it a lot tougher to keep your group as small. But that was done so no one can say I missed the center. :)

brad. you know i test ammo in my indoor 25 yard range in my basement. if a group doesn't measure in the .0's i set the bullets aside and go to the next lot. you know who told us to test this way. could it be the guy who shot the .2 100 yard group!!!! he's not posting any place i know of anymore. i've been drinking good old kentucky bourbon tonight(yep i drink!!! alot!!!! a half gallon lats's me a week if i'm lucky.beer would last me forever. not enough alcohol in it for me). i have his phone number, but i don't want to call him because he hasn't said anything to me lately on the other sight. he doesn't post over here as far as i know because of all the nit picking and simple bull that goes on over here. helped me alot. i'm sure he helped you alot as well. these suhl's are great guns if you can get ahold of one that hasn't had 200,000 round pumped through it. rebarrel tham and you are good for 10,000 more rounds if you get a great barrel. my new hall has been a huge let down for me. i saw who biult it, and it has his name on it. the suhl blow it out of the freaking water today in the wind and in calm conditions. what does that say for the old german's and american gunsmith's? i'd say the german's kick butt and the american's suck it!!!

by the way when i test ammo i never shoot my point of aim because i like to have the same constant point of aim for every shot. then you know just exactly what the rifle will do.

i'm sorry about the american smith's suck butt remark, but think about it. a factory barreled suhl out shooting a custom biult hall actioned rifle by one of the best smith's in the nation. there is alot to be said about that right there.

I sure miss ole Randy. He was the one that turned me on to the cheaper SK Pistol Match. I paid about $3 a box for the first 3 or 4 bricks I bought of that ammo, and I'm telling you that it would shoot pretty dang well for the price. I have seen that lot go head to head with red box Eley and come out on top. ;) Randy could sure shoot his turbo.

Those Suhl barrels were in my opinion as good as any factory barrel that I know of. They still will shoot with some custom barrels I do believe. I'm not much of a wind shooter, but I do enjoy shooting tiny holes for groups when I get the chance.

How do you like that Pappas rest?

James sure knows how to make then don't he. :D

the pappas rest is worth every penny i paid for it. one great rest!! i'm shooting in the wide open now because it's a barrel of fun!!! i just keep trying to do better each time i go out. i'm more or less trying to out shoot myself, and having fun with the guys i shoot with. i wish our range would take more interest in doing something with rimfires. it's kinda the good old boys club if you know what i mean. we have a great set up and nobody wants to do anything with it!!!!! it's really a shame. there could be a great new infussion of membership if they took advantage of the range we have.

Anny

Hello, just seen you note and wanted to say i have a couple of nice anny's for sale, one is a 64 action, modle 1909 heavy barrle, paint is goos(Sants) and barrle is very nice. Shoots in the high .100 with Eley and i have a few boxes to sale with it. I also have a 54 action modle 1712 shoot real nice but needs some more breaking in. The 64 is 900.00 and the 54 is 1,200.00. Let me know if you want some pics. Thanks and good shooting. Beer.break@yahoo

get a suhl!!! the annie's are nice and work, but a propperly tuned suhl will make one look sick!!!!! skip anything less than a suhl!!!! mine has a 1:16 1/2 twist barrel and is simply great to shoot. it shoots well in the wind and in the calm. you won't be let down if you get a suhl with the right twist rate on it. then after you get a suhl that is right you'll be like me. you just need to get the nut behind the rifle set right and wa-la!!! it's like magic!!!! these rifles simply shoot!!! don't settle for less as a starter rifle.

I have the 64 mpr and love it. Custom maple bench rest stock that is an exact replica of the McMillan Edge.

you can buy a new 64 with the bench stock around 1100 I think. Some days I beat the suhl's and some days they beat me. coin toss. but the annie will be brand new.

The suhls are so old they require thousands to make right. My 64 with the barrel tuned right for the ammo is as good or better than any guns I've competed against, stock barrel with over 5000 rounds through it. I've cleaned the barrel once.

You need to compete in some of the Nationals where there are factory Suhls.
You will not see any 64s there. The 64 will have to improved to come close to a Suhl.

I doubt you'll see any stock barrels on those suhls, or stocks.

Not true, there are stock barrels on some of those Suhls at matches. I also know a match shooter that uses the factory stock. I could name so owners that have factory barrels. I for one have a Suhl that shoots great with the factory barrel.

mine has a factory barrel on it. i replaced the stock on it. i should have been shooting it last year instead of my hall actioned rifle. it simply outshot it. i was determined to shoot that hall because i had so much money wrapped up into it. next year after rebarreling the hall and restocking them each in a better stock from don stith i'm going to shoot the one that shoots the best.

i looked at 64's before i got my suhl. i'm really glad i went with the suhl. you'll see annies at matches but the 64's aren't what you are ganna see there. there is a reason for that. the factory suhl barels with the right twist do shoot very good. the factory barrels are as good as most aftermarket barrels. the east germans did a great job on these rifles for sure.
