A great value in long range scopes.

The 10- 50x Sightron riflescope may be the very best buy in long range rifle scopes. James Mock

james ,
define "value" ?
what groups have you shot at 600/1000 yds..consistently ?
what groups have you shoot at short range, consistently ?

I was looking at the pic are those the same multi flat bases on that octagon bat action you used to test the Valdada scope? jim

I shoot a 600 yard match each month and we have shooter of the year to be awarded on Dec. 17th. At the present time, I am leading with the final results dependent on the match that day. I have shot three different scopes this year; the Sightron, a 36X Valdada, and a Nightforce 42X. All three are excellent scopes, but I believe that the Sightron is the best value in a high powered variable. One group does not make for a great scope, but when they are used under a wide variety of conditions over several 600 yard matches, then one can say that they are a quality scope. The group below shot at 600 yards during a match was shot on a day where the mirage was very bad. I feel that many of the nay sayers here have never shot a Sightron 10X-50X scope. I will continue to use it and am proud to do so. Good shooting...James

Sightron 10-50

I have 2 and they are great. Better resolving at 300 yds. than 36 Weaver or regular Sightron.
Now can clearly see 6 mm holes, even in colored bands. before needed Nightforce guys to help spot.
At 300 10-50 Sightron looks equal to 42 Nightforce. Can't say about longer yds, but know some longer range shooters around here that like the 10-50 Sightron. I'd rate them with my 45 Leupold as about equal.

JAMES,
thanks for the reply.
i have a 6-24x on a p-dog rifle, it is very good.
i have seen other comments on the 10-50, but never
by a person with a known shooting history.
thanks again.

I am not saying that the Sightron has greater optics than does the high dollar scopes. I have had the privilege to shoot most of the good scopes available to shooters and there are some great ones. Within the last few years, I have shot with a 10-50 March, a 8-40 Burris, a 15-55 Nightforce, a 42X, a 12-42 Leupold, a 8-32 Burris, a 12-42 Nightforce BR, plus the three mentioned earlier. Most of these scopes were excellent but considering the cost vs the performance of the variables, I rate the Sightron as the best "buy". personally, I prefer fixed power scopes and have shot my old Valdada 36x since 2009. If I had to rate the very best scope that I have ever seen as far as optics, I would say that the first March 40X that Turk Takano allowed me to shoot was the best. As many know I have tested many products since I wrote for PS Magazine from 2002 to 2012. Since then, I have done some free lance writing and still test many products.

A friend of mine, Bobby Wroten, was the first to tell me about the quality of the Sightron 10x-50X scope. Bobby has an extensive gun collection and many fine scopes, including the high dollar Bushnells, two March, Leupold and others. He said that the Sightron has become one of his favorites. If I had the money and wanted the best scope for 600 yard shooting, I would probably opt for the 15-55X Nightforce. Although its optics are a little better than those of the Sightron, I don't think that it would improve my score. I am not trying to be dogmatic about my choice at all, but am passing on my impressions of the Sightron 10X-50X x 60 mm long range scope. IMO, it is a good value, selling in some places for under $900. Good shooting...James Mock

James, I have a 15-55X Nightforce on one of my short range benchrest rifles. I'm by no means an expert on optics, but that NF set at 55X is pretty amazing with the clarity of it to my eyes. It is definitely not a low priced scope however. I've shot it some and a couple of NF 42's, but it takes awhile for me to have faith in a scope as to whether it's holding point of impact especially when shot in the typical Texas weather conditions that I shoot in at matches. I think holding point of impact is the most important quality of just about any competition scope. I imagine that it's pretty hard to want to replace your Valdada 36X with the results that you have had using it. I don't remember which Nationals it was where I was sitting beside you when you were shooting some pretty amazing groups with the Valdada at 200 yards to win the 200 yard agg. Maybe Kansas City? It was definitely holding point of impact then.

Mike, that was Kansas City in 2010. It was one of those days when everything went my way (blind hog finding an acorn). The Valdada has been my most reliable scope for holding point of aim that I have owned. I am still shooting that same scope and I plan to keep it. I was once told to sell rifles was okay, but never get rid of a scope that absolutely holds point of aim. Mike, I have noticed that you have been doing some great shooting since I last saw you. Best of luck to you. James Mock

James, I first put one of my 36x Valdads's on my Long Range Rifle, but with the 20 degree rail, it ran out of adjustment, still shooting 6 inches high at 200.

I put my 8-32 NXS Nightforce on and cured that. It has quite a bit more internal travel.

Sightron has always made decent products. But I have gone for the best of everything on this project, so it will get a 15x50 Nightforce before spring.

My wife just doesn't know she's getting me one for my birthday Feb 5

Jackie, you don't need a 20 min. base for 600. With a Dasher it was i rev. from my 100 yd zero, that is 10 min. Burris sig. rings will take ten out ........ jim

Jackie,

I've shot a lot of 600 yard matches with the Valdada. It's got plenty of travel. Flip your rail around.
