600 yrd Bench Portland, OR

[QUOTE I learned that there are guys that take this 600yd thang seriously and that a 6.5-20 power scope doesn't cut it.

Al these guys take it real serious and you haven't shot against The Pumpkin and Mr Robert(Bob) Hoppe yet!!!!!!!
Hard to imagine these quiet guys who are hard to hear because they speak so softly are such fierce competitors. After they whoop up on you they help you out.
The most common scope seems to be a 12-42 but even with it you can't always see your shots especially in the blue, for that you need a March.

I left the match today seriously considering a March.

I still am.

I'll try my 36 and my 45 and see how they do.

It's starting to look like this might be the game to play around here.

Al what was the weather like up there? My uncle has two ranches one in New Pine Creek and the other in Lakeview which is basicaly on both sides of the Oregon/California border and it was really coming down up there.

50 degrees and mostly overcast with sun breaks. It didn't rain until shooting was over.

Some of the guys were saying that the sun VS clouds was good for a minute of vertical.

I'd like to believe that that was part of my problem :D:D

Portland 600

The turn out was what we expected for the first match. Hopefully it will grow.
It was good to put faces to the names of everyone.
Hope everybody had a good time and plans to return.
Peter and Cody did a fine job running the match, first time they had to deal with benchresters. Some of them can be a challenge.

While I have limited exposure to organized rifle matches, I can't imagine having a better run match. The brief but stern commands by Peter kept the relays moving at a good clip and there were no concerns about safety breaches or any wasted time. Also, Cody took time on Friday to get some of us onto the 100 yard range for a zero and we got to see the layout before the match.
Very nice facilities and it is a fun place to visit and shoot. Those of us from outside the area will surely be encouraging others to attend future matches.
A sincere thank you to those that took the time to get this thing started and working to make it a good match.

I'll have to second Jay's response. While it was a new thing for the folks that ran the shoot, (first Registerd Match) they did a splendid job! Although I made an offer of a few suggestions on how to make things go a little quicker in the sure to happen future matches, they ran a very safe match indeed. Nothing sloppy here....................................the results were compiled and presented in a very efficient manner, allowing those who were traveling an early departure. This is one of the things that make it far more enjoyable for those who travel long distances to matches. No one likes waiting for hours to hear the results.
My only real suggestion would be for Peter and Cody to anounce a shooters meeting at a specified time. With all the milling about and visiting that took place, I know that there were a few shooters that needed further clarification of the course of fire, rules, procedures, etc. This is in no way meant to be a harsh criticism of the match leaders efforts, just a suggestion as to how to better coax all the participants to meet and pay attention to the particulars.

Sincerely,
Mark Van Beek

Thank you Tri County

I wanted to thank Cody and Peter for all of their effort. Sorry I had to leave early. You guys did great and I am looking forward to many more shoots at Tri County.

Gary, see! I finally figured out how to register and post comments; now I just need to believe you!

Thanks Guys

We do appreciate all the positive feed back. It was a learning experience and we look forward to running some more matches.

Thanks again for coming out and supporting us.

I will get the schedule of the other matches up shortly.
