30 BR LV barrel length?

For those of you shooting 30 BR LV, what overall barrel lengths do you ended up with? Thanks, Bro.D

I just don't want to get too short. I have 6ppc barrels that are 19" and they work great. Can you get a 30 BR to shoot with short barrels? Say in the 20" range. I will have no problem making weight but right now the gun is nose heavy. I will be taking some off the front and put it in the back to get the ballance more in line with what I like. Anyone shooting a 20" barrel in a 30BR? Bro.D

I asked this same question last year some time, and i came to the conclusion that 20" is just about as short as anyone would really want to go. My 30BR that i am shooting now has a 22.5" barrel and i like it very much at that length. Good luck and have some fun!! Lee

Of course, it depends on the Rifle. If the Rifle will not make weight, it is useless in that class.

I cut mine at 21.5 inches on my 10.5 pound 30BR, and it shoots withing 20fps of the HV with the 23 inch barrel.

I can on occasion, shoot just as small of groups with the 10.5, but it is quite a bit more difficult to shoot. I am working on that...........jackie

Something to consider is if one has the capability of setting their barrels back and one happens to get a "Good One", if a person finished it off at 24" there would be a couple of inches to use for setbacks. I have had a couple of 30's finished at 24" and they shot the same as the 22.5" barrels.

I have a 30 BR that is 19" long and it shoots fine. I don't use it much because it is on my old 700.

They may shoot the same but I doubt finishing at 24" is an option on a 10.5 lb rifle.

OOps, I missed that minor detail, of course one could use a HBR taper and mebby squeek one in but I don't know much about it yet.

Because of my custom action with a titanium bolt body and aluminum bolt handle, I can make weight at 24" of barrel with my 10.5# rifle. The barrel starts at 1.2" and tapers to .9". The gun shot great, but that's because I used to always use a little thumb pressure to make it ride the rear bag.

Lately I have gone a different direction. By cutting the length down to 22" and putting that weight in the back, I now have great success shooting the rifle free recoil. This was a big help to me when the conditions are very switchy, since I have the ability to shoot heads up now. When shooting heads up with thumb pressure, I was constantly worried about moving the gun.
