30-30s in benchrest - Aussie question

I think

the fellow I mentioned who shot them uses a 1-15 twist barrels. I do have a couple of friends who shoot 1.080" custom made bullets in 1-17 or 1-18 twist barresl with great success.

Don't ever be afraid to go against the grain. If one goes slowly and carefully, they won't tear the surface up that badly :).

my rock creek barrel is a 1-17 and shoots the 135mk fine. i believe one of michaels barrels is the older 1-18 hart that was actually a little slower twist if i remember correctly. it shot the 135mk too i think. i would think any 1-17 would be fine.

Twist Rate

Chuck is spot on with this one. The old Hart does shoot the 135MK just fine. Just to see what would happen, I also shot the 150MK in that 18.7" twist Hart barrel. To my surprise, they went into a small hole at 100 yards. I do not suggest the 150MK is this barrel. Sooner or later it will likely turn sidways on you. The 168MK shot a 12" group at 100 yards with the same barrel. All bullets were sideways. I would recommend the 17" twist for the 135MK as my first choice.

I found the Rifle Mag with Harvey Miller's 6 MCR rifle on the cover. It is Rifle 48 November/December 1978. But there is no article. I have seen the article in another Rifle with cartridge designs for both the 22 and 6 MCR. Harvey used both the 30-30 and the .225 Win cases for his own. I'll look somemore.

I will definetly try. I need to deliver a crankshaft balancing machine to San Marcos possibly this weekend. To bad it's winter time. I'd love to shoot a matched with all of my friends from that area, even if it's just a club match.

It looks like...

It looks like Santa is bringing me a 17" Shilen barrel!

Thanks for the advise,
