Any one try the 135 seirra match in there 30 BR. Today I tried some 125 nosler ballistic tips and the shoot very well. :D My rifle tends to like the 125 and 135 weight bullets.

Pics of my tactical 30 BR. That was a remington PS stock at one time that is what a little imagination gets you when you need a BAT action for tactical shooting.:

Tough Row To Plow

The Sierra is a fine bullet, but when compared to a "true" custom, such as a BIB, you just leave too much on the table for venues such as Varmint for Score and Group Shooting.
That being said, I once saw Sam Weaver shoot a 250 16x with his HBR Rifle using that 110 grn Sierra Varminter.......jackie

I am shooting a lawton 17 twist 3 groove and have shot 135 bergers to 500 yards with no problems.;)

It has been said lately

That Berger is making some good 30 Cal bullets. I have found that if one segregates bullets by their bearing surface length, most of them shoot pretty well.

Sorting Berger bullets by bearing surface length..

Pete, I recently sent an email to Steve at Berger bullets asking him to offer 30caliber (110 grain) bullets from a single die set so as to remove the ogive/bearing surface variabilty from within a lot/box of bullets...
Which I have been sorting with excellent results...
Steve responded that their bullets come from only one die set and that if I am seeing variability that I should send the bullets back to him, he feels that their bullets equal the fine hand made custom bullets in the ogive/bearing surface tolerance..
I was surprised by the reply by Berger, because the bullets do have variabilty within a box/lot...and by a signifcant amount from box to box...but they shoot "lights out" in my 18 twist Kreiger barrel...when sorted...

You will find this

variability, to some degree, no matter who makes them.

This is precicely why

I'd be more concerned about group size than length variation. If they group or score well, you've found what you wanted to find. Those bullets in the 110 to 125 grain range should shoot well in a 17 twist barrel.

We sort em F. We are concerned about our group sizes ! :p

135 sierra in a 30br

the reason i asked was this,
I'm going to try a 30br with a 16 twist. I had luck with 125 tnt and am having a set of dies made to make 30 bullets.

Probly not a bad idea to go with the 16, but like had mentioned I had no problem out to 500 yds with a 17 and I think the 16 is what berger says on there box.;)

That makes sense, I was wondering if any one has one , made up.
Thanks for the info on thst.

The 16 twist likes 115's the 125 depending on the ogive may have a little to much wait towards the nose. You already know how well the 115's shot. In warm weather the 118's also shot well.

Mike
I'm not sure of the ogive on this sample bullet from dietch.
It looks really good, justt enough point. Very similar to those TNT bullets

17 Twist

I've shot custom .30-145gr bullets in my .30BR, 17 twist Rock, and no tumbling. Just to let you know it seemed to work. I didn't do any load work up just fired 1 group to see if the would be stable.

16 twist 3br

I've got a 16 twist 30br in transit as we speak.. I'm following this post.. Please keep it going..

Thanks, Toot

Mines in the works also. I have some 125 tnt,s to start with.
I have a friend who has a set of 30 dies and some 1.150 sierra jacket's also a mini lath to ream the jackets and cut them down. It's an old set up from years back. I'm hoping to find an ideal weight in the 30 BR. right now the 110s and 118 are doing fine. A few have tried 125gr but I'm not sure of the twist they are using.
I tried the 308X 1 1/2 years ago . i started to get some where but the cases were the problem. Now finally we have good cases to work with.
this should be a fun project

How do you sort bullets by bearing surface length ?

How do you physically sort bullets by bearing surface length? By what process? Thanks...Stay Safe, Doug:D
