    Winchester 52D

When I bought the rifle back in the late 80s a collector told me it was a 60% finish gun. There was a lot of build up in the barrel then that looked like it might have been rust. Thorough cleaning after each shooting session eventually revealed a bright clean bore. The crown looks good and...

    Winchester 52D

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a custom barrel for my 52D? It currently has a blued heavy barrel on it. It shoots well but I would like to see if I can improve on the accuracy at 100 yds.

    Savage Rifles From Walmart

This spring I bought the Savage LRPV from Walmart. They had the cheapest price I could find...Took less than a week to get in. Much as I prefer to do business with a good gun shop you still can't beat Walmart for the price.

    Savage LRPV

A while back I read a thread concerning how to tighten the 3 bedding screws for better accuracy. If I remember correctly the front two should be snugged down. What about the rear screw? How tight should it be?

    Scope mounts and rings (help)

I have also used the Burris rings. Not only do the keep the scope from getting marred but the helped a severe alignment issue I had with my new scope.

    Wild Flyers

I was using the 36gr Varmint Grenades right before the 50gr bullets. They grouped fairly well. It was a windy day with a tail wind blowing from slightly left to right. Nothing grouped well that day. The 50gr med vel were the only ones that were erratic. I still have a few of the loads left...

    Wild Flyers

Larry, Yes it is a .223. The velocity I stated was from the Sierra manual. I will look at the bore as the problem occurred at the end of the shooting day. I had thought of the bullets coming apart in flight so I looked up when firing. No trail, no smoke. Only once did I see a multiple...

What is your scope of choice?

I was looking for a scope to shoot out to 300yds. I ended up with the Bushnell Eleite 4200, Leupold universal mounts and Burris Signature Zee rings. I would have chosen a I had a set of leupold rings on the temp scope but when I mounted the 4200 I couldn't get it shooting to POI until I had...

    Wild Flyers

Had a weird experience at the range today. I was testing new loads today using Sierra 50gr Blitzkings (#1340 Med Vel). The load consited of 25 to 26 gr of H335 Federal 205 primers and R-P cases. Listed velocity from Sierra is 3100 - 3200 fps The rifle is a Savage LRPV with a 1 in 9" twist. 5...

Brass Brands vs. Accuracy - Article

Zediker claims in his book "Handloading for Competition" that the biggest difference in brass is the amount of prep work needed. Remington and Winchester will need more of course. The finicky reloader may also sort the cases by weight and/or capacity. I'm just starting to handload for...

What do you think of the 6.5-08 (260 Rem)

I have heard it is a good round for up to 1000 yds plus it can be used as a varmint round. Supposed to be easier on barrels than the 6.5 X 284. Just wondering what its target/hunting potential is

    Reloading question.

Beeman, I have loads of H335 and it would be the powder of choice however I can't find any load data for the 36gr Varmint Grenade . I do have a source that lists using RE-7 so it gets the nod. If anyone knows of a published load using H-335 please let me know :)

    Reloading question.

Thanks Dave! I haveH335 as well and plan on trying it out today as well. The only bullet lighter than 52gr that will seat out is Barnes Varmint Grenade. I was hoping to use H335 but I can't find any load data. I'll try RE-7 and see how that does.

    Reloading question.

Single shot. I'll load up some 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenades and see how they do at the recommended OAL then at the .020 off the lands length. I understand that with a magazine you have other considerations...will it fit in the mag...is recoil changing the seating depth etc.

    Reloading dies....which to buy

I concur with Rangerat on Zediker's book. There are a lot of great details there. He uses colloquial language so sometimes you have to read something twice.

    Reloading question.

I have a Savage 12 LRPV in .223 Rem. I'm currently using R-P and Winchester brass. I'd like to seat the bullets out to about .020" off the lands. Bullets 52gr and heavier seat fine however 50 gr and lighter I have a problem The base (flat base) barely seats 1/2 way down the neck. Since I...

    Reloading dies....which to buy

I agree with karts52. I just started using the Redding .223 Competition dies...they are really sweet to use. As far as accuracy on the calipers is concerned I believe most are .001" so that shouldm't be an issue...the extra $$ i believe is in the consrtuction and smoothness is the slide. I...
