Rimfire Benchrest rifles (Calfee SPEC rifles)

I'm not sure how many major matches BD has won but will take a stab at if there's been equal. Tony, you've won a bunch with your rifles. How many major matches have you won with Tack Driver or TDX? Chuck has with his over the years. B.Brandt has won his fair share comes to mind. And then there's...

    EC Tuners

It might be a good option for rimfire rifles that have a threaded muzzle but doubt there's any interest from br shooters threading the muzzle of a taper lapped barrel for fear it would open it up a few tenths negating all thats gone into it. Especially since there's already several excellent...

    EC Tuners

I see them pop up on RFC once in a while but have never read anyone's experience with one. Try one Pete & give us a review.

    IR 50/50 Nationals

Very sorry to hear this Wayne. You've always been one of the draws for me. You'll be missed by us all. Keith

    Tuners!!!!

As I said I have limited experience shooting 100yds with a tuner. Most of it done in less than ideal(comfortable) temperatures also. I was able to improve upon my groups after adjusting my tuner but was never satisfied with how the rifles shot. You may find more info on tuners/100yds on rimfire...

    Tuners!!!!

    1. sometimes, not usually, don't be afraid to. Shouldn't be a wholesale change, not more than a few clicks. 2. Yes, at least for me at 100yds with what little I'd tried it. Tend to agree with Lee though in that its ammo dependent. YMMV

    IR 50/50 target

I hear 'ya. News travels real slow. FYI, there's a factory class now too, evidently. Call Jason per the rules. Last I'd heard they would be minimal as far as restrictions. Meaning anything goes, as long as its completely factory. That may have changed though. Keith

    IR 50/50 target

Todd, the size of the scoring rings hasn’t changed. The outer back ring was removed as well as a ring on the sighter. Happened some time last year. I ran out of the old targets 2 matches ago but had bought the new from Jason last fall. 1st shot it at Braxton in late July/ early August.’21 It was...

    IR 50/50 target

Nice target George! However its the old target with 3 black outer rings, opposed to the new with only two. Also the sighters on the sides are smaller on the new target. Keith

    IR 50/50 target

I find the smaller sighters on the side a little more difficult with a 6x. Otherwise, not much difference. I do like the narrower width as far as rest travel though, not that it was ever an issue, just like it better.

    What tuner is this?

Good you didn’t weed thru the tuner thread. Nothing but piss & moan in it. Why it’s a “sticky” is beyond me! EAL looks to be right, it looks like a Fudd. See an old post on 6br below https://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/fudd-tuner-rimfire.3966749/

Rimfire Benchrest rifles (Calfee SPEC rifles)

Guys, out of respect for (4628) could you take this over to the tuner thread. Although somewhat amusing, it has no place here.... we all know how you feel about each other, ok?

Turning down diameter of an already lapped barrel

Stuart, you're welcome. I was remiss in not also mentioning Jim Peightal as he build excellent stocks as well. If 6oz is all you need to loose you might considr a Leopold BR 36, the lightest I know of, single screw rings, & if needed wittle a little out of the Lidgard stock as Scott mentioned...

Turning down diameter of an already lapped barrel

I picked up a stock from John a couple years ago & really like it. I've not seen him post anything here But if you go to Accurate Shooter site he can be found. He make them in various species of wood. Mine's walnut,.900 barrel, Sightron 45x & I'm under 10lbs I can get you his contact info if...

    Tuners!!!!

I've never noticed that drastic with rf. I'm going to have to pay more attention I guess. Its my understanding that its best to be tuned at the top of the wave opposed to the bottom. Mike, any idea why we sometimes induce horizontal into the group when moving a tuner? I figured it was due to...

    Tuners!!!!

I'd be interested in your findings once you get a chance. Having said that didn't you just send a gun or 2 to the Lapua test center? I'm assuming you found a lot or 2 to buy meaning it shot pretty well or even better than a Eley lot you have ? If you sent a heavy gun do you know if they remove...

    Tuners!!!!

Tim, I've never seen any major difference other than a click or 2. But then I'm apt to do that any given Sunday so.... Is that what you've found?

    Tuners!!!!

Data? No, I don't have any data. When I said twisting what I meant was willing to move it. I have a base tune I'm comfortable with for example. At the beginning of a target when shooting sighters if I see what seems to be a little vertical, I'll go up to a horizontal line on top of the target...

    Tuners!!!!

I'm guessing the flattish one's are where your best groups are? That's what I think I'd stick with as it would seem that is your "window". Another thing I would look at on your perceived best settings is to find which are repeatable in very different conditions, i.e., weather, wind, etc. If so...

What it takes to win... outside gear

A trap I fall into is being to relaxed when shooting at my home range. I'm too relaxed & my concentration suffers. Often times I'm not shooting my "main" rifles or ammo, experimenting with this or that & just yucking it up with the guys. Probably the worst approach one could take as to many bad...
