    Remington 40X

Custom Shop Barrel When the Custom Shop rebarrelled my 22/250 in 2009, they advised that they were not making .204 and smaller barrels in the Custom Shop. As an alternative, they offered a Shilen. That is what it got. Perhaps they used different vendors at different times in addition to making...

    The Haydon BAT 222 Rem.

Slowshot, I am sure Russ has it figured out for you. The technical stuff is interesting especially as it relates to your success. A reamer is the cutting tool that shapes the chamber, neck, throat, lead etc. It creates the space that the cartridge fits in. The size and dimensions are very...

Help with early Hart bench rifle

Those riles are outstanding! I agree with what others say...call Hart and see what they can tell you. It may require patience or a call back, but they are very helpful in my experience. I would confirm the chambering and neck diameter and then load some good brass with H322 and some 52 or...

    Remington Model 721 Extractor

When I was looking for one for my 722 I went on the Remington site and found a list of suppliers of obsolete parts. I started at the top and after calling 5 or 6 shops, low and behold, I found a fellow who had them. They do not come cheap. If I remember correctly I paid about $20 or $25 but...

    The Haydon BAT 222 Rem.

Slowshot, Beauty of a rifle and caliber! Is it a 14 twist? What barrel and reamer? Please share your progress. Best of luck, Peter.

    .257 Roberts

We have had std 257 Roberts, 28 degree and 40 degree. We always seem to end up back at our old 722 in std 257 Roberts. It kills white tails just fine. Someday we plan to try it with lighter bullets for wood chucks. I just can't give up my .222 for that task. We found the fireforming process...

Is the focus of the image and the reticle plane be different?

Russ, I am not sure that this will help but I was taught that you should take the scope and point it up at the sky and then adjust the eyepiece until the reticle is clearly focused. Then when you sight on your target you adjust the AO and both the target and the reticle should be in focus...

    22-250 barrel life

Although not very scientific, I can say that when shooting them side by side, my 700V in 22/250 gets hot a lot faster than my 700V in .222 Rem. Probably about 600 or more fps faster and a 5 grain heavier bullet but I think it is logical that heat would contribute to faster wear. Peter.

    Quick Lathe survey...

No Logan's out there? Mine is a 920 11" with a 1 3/8" spindle through hole. Nice 50's vintage lathe. Peter.

    Grades of Remington actions?

Been to the factory, it ain't true!! No casting....no sorting or grading. Fit & finish may have fluctuated over time but there is no such program. The only different stuff is from the custom shop. Peter.

    Can 540X be competative (w/barrel)-opinions?

Good Question Regis, I also have a 540X that I was contemplating re-barreling. My action has had a fair amount of use. Nice rifle though. Please keep us posted. Thanks, Peter.

    6mm Remington 55gr loads & etc

244 Remington I have a Remington 722 in 244 that shoots quite well. As long as the barrel does not get too hot it does quite well. Like others who have posted, I have also had good luck with the Sierra 60 gr HP bullets. I have not had good luck with the Speer 70 TNT and 75 HP bullets. I...

Cost for rebarrel -- and how

I also priced re-barrelling but for a Remington 700. It ads up to very high number very quickly. By the time you pay for a premium barrel which in most instances is about $285+, have it installed which is at least $250 and then get it blued you are over $500 without any truing or bedding. It...

Leupold VX II vs VX III 6-18

I believe the reticle suspension and adjustment system is supposed to be fancier and more stable and consistent in a VXIII. At leats that is what Leupold repair assistance says. Peter

    222 Remington

Lapua brass Possum, I would ask any retailer that you may deal with if they have any. That is how I found 2 boxes. I just asked on a long shot and they had the two that I bought. Its worth a try. Although I know its not the same but I have been using Winchester with fairly good success...

    222 Remington

222's Rule!! I am waiting to receive a custom 222 on a trued Remington action with a Hart barrel. Bob White is the smith. I can't wait to try it out. Gotta get some flags myself and then learn where to place them and how to read them. My factory 222 rifles sure shoot well! Did you guys see...

    Newbie and wind flag question

Radio Shack components Hey Vic, The parts that you mentioned that could be obtained from Radio Shack, were they the bases? By any chance do you have a product number or description in Radio Shack terminology that would help me find them? Thanks, Peter.

    Ruger M77 Help Needed?

I tore my hair out trying to get a Ruger M77 in 7x57 to shoot well. I called everyone and tried all their tricks and it was still perpetually erratic. There is not enough time in life to spend trying to figure them out. I even had Ruger re-barrel mine. It was slightly better than before but...

    Remington 700 From Custom Shop

John, The experience that I had was with four rifles. Two of these were production line products and two were 700P rifles that had issues. They were all corrected by the Custom Shop. To try to answer your question of time frame, mine were all back within two weeks or less. One barrel was...
