    UKBRA changes the rules

We have always had a 'Factory' Class in the UK for absolutely standard 'out of the box' factroy rifles. This served as a 'starter' class to introduce shooters to benchrest and hopefully tempt them to get a 6PPC eventually. It worked very well and I can name a number of shooters who started...

Cost of building F open and F/TR, is there much difference

In the UK, our 'serious' F Class shooting is at ranges 800 - 1000 yards. 3000 fps (or more) m/v is desirable with the 155gn bullet at 1000 yards. Our top shooter, Russell Simmonds, is World Champion and European Champion - it works for him! All the top guys are pushing above 3000fps with the...

Cost of building F open and F/TR, is there much difference

Steve, That was what I mean't by 'running costs'. Having said that - we are finding that 308 barrels do not give anything like the 3 - 4000 rounds we used to get, once you start pushing bullets in excess of 3000fps. Vince (UK)

Cost of building F open and F/TR, is there much difference

Building costs - no, running costs - yes. However, a decent joystick front rest for Open Class will be a bit dearer than a bi-pod. Vince (UK)

For the IBS is there a suitable alternative to Precision Shooting Magazine?

Hi Dick, Nice to hear from you - hope you are keeping well. I'm just getting ready for the Worlds in France next month - are you still shooting that 22 'short'? I finally gave up on mine - then tried a 22 Beggs and gave up on that too! Zippy - thank you for your kind words - we launch on the...

For the IBS is there a suitable alternative to Precision Shooting Magazine?

George, Thanks for giving Target Shooter magazine a plug. Although we are UK based, we would love to carry 'accuracy' articles from any American shooter who would like to submit the odd article. As long as it's target shooting, we will cover it. We are also available as an Apple iPad app...

    Which rear bag?

Guys - thanks for the advice and thanks for the bag offer LHSmith - though I do prefer Cordura ears. With the Edgewood Gator - do you prefer the large or small ears - my rifle is a BAT S in a Kelbly SPG stock. Vince

    Which rear bag?

I've used a Bald Eagle bag sat on a suede doughnut for the last ten years without problem. At last Saturday's shoot, somone dropped it and it split open, tearing the leather beyond repair. I was a bit shattered as I have the World Championships in France in August and no bag! Since I bought...

    new March 8-80X56, downside??

Alinwa, Check out Richard Wild's appraisal of the 8-80 March in the January 2011 issue of Target Shooter magazine. www.targetshooteronline.com Richard set a new Aussie 1000 yd BR record using one. Cheers Vince

    6x47 Swiss Match ruag brass

I got my first lot a 1000 pieces from RUAG in Switzerland. I managed to share them with a few other shooters. At that time, the 6.5x47 Lapua didn't exist. Now, I just run a 6.5x47 case through my Swiss Match body die and out pops a 6mm Swiss Match case - except for the small primer. Vince (UK)

Accuracy of Harrell Powder measure - PREMIUM version

londonhunter Almost all of the UK short-range benchrest shooters use the Harrel for 100 yard competition. Three-tenth of a grain is the best they do. It's fine for 100 yard benchrest. For 600 yard or 1000 yard benchrest, the Harrel stays in its box. Cheers Vince (UK)

    New F/TR .308

Glenn Barrel needs to be heavy and at least 30 inches long. Palma profile might be a bit whimpy. Look for a stock a bit longer than the A3 and keep in mind the all-up weight of 18lb. 2oz - a Nightforce with rings will weigh 2.5 lb. and a decent bi-pod will weigh at least 2 lb. Cheers Vince (UK)

    223@ 600, 800, 1000yds new build

s1rk1118 We made the reamer a 'no-turn' neck, which is three thou. larger than a loaded round using Lapia 223 Match brass, which comes out at 0.252 in. Amazingly, this rifle is competitive at 1000 yards with a 308! It's also very nice to shoot. Cheers Vince

    223@ 600, 800, 1000yds new build

s1rk s1rk1118 I used a PG&T reamer with a .226 freebore - print no. 19486. We were all sceptical that a 223 could do it at 1000 yards but that was put to bed when Laurie entered a 1000 yd BR comp. and shot a 4.7 inch group! Cheers Vince

S1rk, You might be interested in a feature in Target Shooter magazine www.targetshooter.co.uk - we featured a 223 F/TR rifle over the last three issues Aug, Sept, Oct. using a Savage target action as the basis and 90gn Bergers. Vince UK

    Barnard Palma FINISHED

Nesika Chad, Beautiful work. But can I ask a question? The boltface on a Barnard has a flat on the end of the cone - unlike a BAT or Stolle for example, which finishes in a sharp edge. To (presumably) reduce the amount of unsupported cartridge case, the Barnard tenon drawing shows a small...
