    Newbie needs advice

As you say you have learned from experience you would have saved a lot of money if you purchased top tier equipment, another thing you said is that at this point you aren't interested in competition. Tom's advice is the best bit of advice I've read in this thread, especially the bit about...

    Any Experience with 222 Remington?

Slowshot, the reason I highlighted the bit above was that back in 2001 one of the competitors at the World Benchrest Championship held in Nelson New Zealand (WBC6) was in a wheelchair and was using a Remington 40XBR in 223. He did pretty good too beating a lot of 6PPC's, full results can be...

    WBC 2013 update

Lee it's always been a 2 inch penalty at 200yds for each record shot not put on your target...........the rules would have to be changed to make the penalty anything else, everybody knows the rules before they compete. Ian

    WBC 2013 update

Going by the Australian safety rules spelled out to us prior to the commencement of WBC a malfunctioned rifle can be laid aside but only a range officer can pass you a backup rifle. If a live round is stuck then the instructions were that the rifle cannot be moved and a range officer has to...

Hovis that is a very interesting bit of information......does Tom have an email address I can contact him by? neck turner

+1 I have had one of the Sinclair premium neck turning tools (NT4000) for a while and I do like it, it's easy to adjust, although not as fine in the adjustment as the Pumpkin or Stiller. It is also a good size which makes it easy to hold onto and because of the mass soaks up a bit of heat. I...

    After Precision Shooting...

While the NBRSA magazine maybe an improvement over the previous magazine as far as I know it's only available to NBRSA members and not all Benchrest shooters are NBRSA members. Precision Shooting magazine was available to anybody who wished to subscribe and so is Target Shooter, and neither of...

    F-Class Rimfire

Lee, in Aussie they shoot a Fly competition with rimfire, they use the 500m fly target and shoot it at 200yds with rimfire rifles. From what I've been told the scores are similar to the 500m centrefire scores. You might need a 20moa rail for your rimfire rifle. I can remember when we used to...

New Grizzly 16x40 "Gunsmithing" Lathe First Impressions

I like the idea of one of those skyhook cranes to change the chuck on a D1-6, you say it mounts on the toolpost, have you got any pictures of this setup. There are a few things I like about the Hardinge HLV for doing standard BR barrels, the retracting topslide and the dog clutch on the...

    colchester student 1800 lathe

I sold one of those a few years ago, it used to belong to a NZ shooter that gave up shooting BR and sold everything off. I don't see them come up for sale very often but have seen a couple of similar ideas, here goes a few links, and I'm pretty sure a few could quite easily make a retracting...

New Grizzly 16x40 "Gunsmithing" Lathe First Impressions

Lee I have 3 lathes that are D1-6, one of the ones at work I change the chuck on quite often..........must say that the 12" 4 jaw and 10" 6 jaw are pretty heavy but still manageable. Does anyone use a Hardinge HLV for chambering barrels? Ian
