    Bi-Pods legal to use ?

I have not yet gone the route of a proper rest and top. Spent a bunch just getting a starting rifle & ammo. But the other day I was practicing for an upcoming Egg Shoot with my Ruger 77/17 and found the shooting off of it's bi-pod very easy. I also recall reading an article in one of the...

June 15 Holbrook IR Unlimited, AGBR to follow

Me too God willing and the creek don't rise, I will be there. Did I hear that there would be some informal 100 yard shooting later in the day ? I plan to go to the Egg Shoot at South Dartmouth on the 29th so I may bring my .17 HMR to practice a bit. No biggy, my home range has the distances...

    Historical Range Under Attack

Kind of like a Piggery ain't it ? For what it's worth, you get little milage out of being there first, if what you put out past the borders of your property amount to a nuisance. Many piggeries in the Northeast found that out. The difference with the airports was the perception of public...

    Velocity gain?

Not really pistol ammo ? I think that the dimpled ammo was designated pistol to tell it apart from other, and the biggest difference is where the ogive contacts the rifling. Someone with a lot more time in this game told me that. I suspect the velocity given is not for a pistol but rather for...

Need new Icon to choose from...

I like the little smiley face, but wouldn't it be nice to have an icon that looked like a bench rest target ? Maybe a couple of them, one with the "x" hit and for those just off the mark, a "10" and maybe for my idea, if you don't like it a "9" or worse.

    Leupold VS. Weaver

Use of scope ? Hi Tim, Will you be using the scope to shoot rimfire benchrest ? If yes, I will suggest the Weaver. I have almost always owned and used Leupold for all of my many years of hunting and just this year decided to give up hunting and stick with target shooting. For this purpose...

    cleaning rod

Ditto CZ 452 I tried cleaning my CZ 452 and scratched up the rod big time. Buffed it out and wondered about using a Bore Snake to avoid the area of the receiver where this is taking place. Can't believe it does the rifle any good. I have a .17 rod and may try that. Or just never clean it ????

    Barrell Length

Found some info, barrel length & velocity Here is a study that Chief Dave did some time ago. It has to do with barrel length and velocity, as opposed to accuracy. The general concensus is that the 22 LR has completed its powder burn at about 16 1/2". After that there is a gradual loss of...

    Remington 40XR-BR

This may be close, worth a look... I saw an ad on Varmint Hunter site for a Remington 40X in a BR stock, color looks more blue than green. Shilen trigger, 20.5" K&P s/s barrel, Hoen Tuner for $1,250 shipped. Picture with ad. http://www.varminthunters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13170 Looks...

    Plugging big holes

Bullet shape and shape of target hole Shoot a round nose hard ball bullet out of a .38, then shoot a flat nosed wadcutter out of a .38 and see which looks bigger on paper. There may be some .22 bullets with a "square" edge driving band cutting a bigger looking hole than more rounded bullets...

    Barrell Length

Barrel length, velocity & accurancy I start by saying most all I "know" I have learned from others. Be it word of mouth or the written word, in magazines, books and posts. I agree that it is generally agreed that somewhere around 17" the standard .22 Long Rifle generates the most velocity...

    New to IR 50/50

Me too new to this & 1 bit of advice... Folks in this game are frequently getting new rifles, rests etc. Like most of us, as they want something new, they may sell off what is old to them, both as a way of financing the new they want, and simply to cut down on inventory. Go to the matches...

Penny Hadfield Back to Back 250's

NIce folks play this game... I attended this shoot, my 2nd only. Todd let me borrow a Sporter class rifle for that event. Paul let me borrow a rifle and a rest for the next two events. I saw an ad on the board which included a Remington 40X BR rifle, scope & tuner and as others were...

AL & Penny Hadfield Win HOLBROOK

Thanks for putting on this shoot... I had a great time, thank you all. I will try and remember to bring a seat to my next match. I was lucky in being able to borrow a spare. I watched with some amusement during the airgun shoot as one man straddled a 55 gal. drum as his place to sit. My...

EMERGENCY for ALL that shoot at Bullseye range

Gun laws For what it is worth, Massachusetts has had such a law on the books for many years. No discharge of firearms within 500 feet of a dwelling. Some time back, some of the law makers wanted to increase that distance. I think many states have laws regards to minimum distances for...

    Winchester 52C Standard Target Rifle

Winchester 52 C I would love to get a Winchester 52 C to shoot, and extra holes wouldn't bother me too much. I bet it was for some of scope mounting using a ring on the barrel and a ring on the receiver. If the bolt works well and the rifle shoots well, why care ? Let the Seller know your...
