Gunsmithing Lathes at the SHOT show.

Whoa, whoa, let's not all jump on me at once. I simply made a comment. If that's their policy, that's fine. It is quite a bit to ship a DVD. If I had that much of a problem with it, I wouldn't have bought the DVD-I could have waited until SHOT and hoped that they had them there at the booth. I...

Gunsmithing Lathes at the SHOT show.

That does look nice- hope it is there! Shriraz- on another note, if I may be critical, I went ahead and ordered the DVD so I could see this lathe run. I thought $12 shipping for a DVD was quite excessive! Is that you standard rate or is that next day air???

    Why ream muzzlebrakes.

Where are you guys getting those numbers for the I.D. of the brake?? .012 over? .020 over?? All the ones I have done were .006 over. The tighter they are, the better they work- this is just physics. Dennis

D1-5 spindle -vs- others and camlock ???

The bigger the number D1- #, the bigger ( and more expensive) the chuck. They have posts with a half moon notch machined into them that "'cams" into a hole in the spindle for each post- a D1-4 has 4 as does the 5 (I think). The posts rotate by using your chuck key and rotating them. They are...

Notice I said that I bought mod 70s not that I sold them!!! In fact, I have only ever sold one- a 220 Swift that I used as a hunting rifle but I just thought it was awfully heavy for a 220 Swift with a sporter weight barrel. I think I sold the Swift for $900 as they are "more desirable." No...

    Rate these barrels

I think some barrels are better than others- that doesn't mean the other is "bad", there are, however, "bad" barrels out there. They either foul so bad they can't function well or they plain won't shoot worth a hoot. I have had a couple of those. One was a Hart! One was a Ruger!! In both cases...

    Rate these barrels

I'm sorry if anyone took what I said for "bashing" Shilen. I only posted what I did as I knew that many top shooter use Shilen and they make some fantastic barrels. I just wanted to point out that there are some lemons out there as well. I sent the barrel back to Shilen and they told me there...

    Rate these barrels

I'm certainly no expert, but have bought enough barrels to have an opinion. The worst barrel I have owned is a Shilen. Granted, it wasn't a match barrel, but one of their Lone Star line. Fouled something horrible. Shot decent, but had to be cleaned quite often. Worst company I have ever dealt...

HUH??? I've never paid more than $600 for an entire rifle! The last one was a 300 H&H that came with a scope (Leupold) and a CASE of ammo. I have bought a half-dozen '06s that were under $500. I think they are nice slick actions, but you won't see any winning any matches these days;)
