Brian-Great shooting! Wish I could have been there to shoot with guys. Steve

    Stevens Favorite .22 lr

Based on the limited info, it sounds like a Stevens 44-1/2 with Peterson barrel...A very desirable gun among collectors and Scheutzen single shot shooters. A.W. Peterson was from Denver, and made some very good custom barrels, right along the same quality as H.M. Pope. It was common to have the...

    CMP 52D SN on bolt?

All 52's, regardless of model came with s/n on bolt. Many of the CMP guns do not have the s/n, indicating that bolt was replaced at one time or another. Also, it is not unusual to find a CMP with a mis-marked bolt from another gun. Obviously originality was not a big concern.

    Remington Model 37 Trigger

The only aftermarket trigger for the 37, that I know of currently, is made by Karl Kenyon, his phone number is: 775 289 2784. Expect to pay about $400 for it, if he will still make one. He is over 90 years old, and most of his current work is modifying Winchester model 52 triggers. Steve

Value of 51 yr old 40X LNIB

George, The Winchester 52 Target and 70 Targets did come in a wooden box up to the early 60's when they switched to cardboard. The Remington 37 came in wood box as well, but of course it was discontinued in the 50's. I have seen previous owners put hinges and and a handle on their original...

Value of 51 yr old 40X LNIB

George, I could be wrong, but I don't think that is the original box. I have a early 60's 40X with the original box, and it is cardboard. Maybe someone will chime in that knows more.... Either way, you did not get hurt. Steve

    United Sportsmen's ARA Results

A "thank you" to Joe and Mary for putting on a great match, and especially Mary for all the scoring and sign-in work. I don't think she ever got to leave the scoring shack. Steve

Value of 51 yr old 40X LNIB

George, I would put the gun at about $1500, and the scope at $700. Steve

    Lyman 20 X All-American Target/Varmint Scope

I would say about $200-275 if it has the target turrets.

    Winchester 52C Standard Target Rifle

My feeling is if you are looking at it just to shoot, it will not matter. If, on the other hand, you are concerned about getting your money back out of it, or it appreciating in value, I would pass. At $850, it is no bargain with the extra holes. Those just kill it from a collector standpoint...

L COOK, did you ever get your picture? Don't you regret ever asking such a simple question? Let me know if you did not get a picture and I will email you one. You will have to let me know what type you want to see with what options?? Steve

I would be interested to know if yours has the flat on the bottom of the action. I have looked at and own a bunch of E's. I have never seen a heavy barrel w/o the recessed crown(std wt barrels, yes). However as you say, nothing is cast in stone with Winchester. I can assure the vast majority...

John, I second that appeal. There has to be some shooters that bought some of these when they first came out. Steve

John, I think this post is getting off the original intent, and we are probably boring the rest of the readers to death. Never the less, I still believe the picture in the 1970 catalog is an E model. My reasoning is that the E's were well into production by that time. Yes, it could be a D, I...

JohnnyO, I cannot say for certain that the very very late D's did not have some d/t'd units shipped. I can say that far and away the very high majority of D's were not drilled and tapped. I have D's into the 122,500 range and they are not drilled and tapped. The D's don't go much further than...

I hope I don't confuse matters worse, but the first 52 with a drilled/ tapped receiver from the factory was the 52C sporter. The C target rifles were not d/t from factory. The D target rifles were not d/t from factory. All E models were d/t at factory. Steve

Fred, Unfortunately, this info is not printed in any one place, and for the most part is not printed at all. My info comes from 20 years of collecting, shooting, researching, talking to other collectors in the know such as BrianJ, and former factory employees concerning these fine rifles...
