All 50 cal and smaller surplus brass must be destroyed,

this just took affect, so short of notice that brass was sold, that is being recalled....this only happend thur afternoon....give them time to go mark all the auctions...plus if on a third party site it may take longer.
i have talked to both the owner and his wife ( SCHARCH MFG)today.
IT IS TRUE, ALL 50 AND BELOW IS SCRAP, NOT FOR RESALE, MUST BE DESTROYED.

So much for "Rumor, Conjecture or Scare Tactic Goblins".

There are those who will continue to cry "it's the conspiracy mentality"................right up to when it is no longer feasible (monetarily and legally) to retain ownership of ANY firearm
And to think all this is happening at warp-speed
The unthinkable is fast becoming reality.

I hope that that gun owners, business owners and the NRA wont roll over and let this happen. Its seems to be just the beginning. I wrote and call my congressman and his aide didn't know what surplus brass was but I think he got the drift after some explanation. I think this wont get much lib media attention and the we're getting it with no lube.

DOD Ends Sale of Expended Military Brass to Remanufacturers

By Congress Check in Uncategorized on March 16th, 2009
The Shootist
March 16, 2009

AND SO IT BEGINS…
We all wondered when it was going to start.

When the new administration would make their move against us as gun owners. Oh, everyone got upset about HR45–I’ll bet I got over 100 e-mails warning me about this draconian gun registration bill that had been introduced in Congress.

I was really glad to see Tom Gresham, host of "Gun Talk Radio," an editor, writer, television host on "Self-Defense TV," and one of the foremost gun spokespersons, come out and tell everyone to stop worrying about legislation so absolutely over-the-top–it would never get out of committee.

Tom said save your energy for when we really need it–don’t expend it trying to warn everyone in your e-mail list about legislation that would go nowhere.

Now, Tom just interviewed me, and Larry Haynie, owner of Georgia Arms (www.georgia-arms.com), on Gun Talk (www.guntalk.com)–and Tom agrees, now is the time to "…unleash the hounds…" by which he means start e-mailing and writing your senators and congressmen.

Now it has come clear…now we know what they intend to do.

It is an end-run around Congress. They don’t need to try to ban guns–they don’t need to fight a massive battle to attempt gun registration, or limit "assault" weapon sales.

Nope. All they have to do is limit the amount of ammunition available to the civilian market, and when bullets dry up, guns will be useless.

Think we jest?

Here are copies of two letters sent to Georgia Arms just Thursday evening–effectively cancelling a contract he had to purchase 30,000 pounds of expended military brass in .223, 7.62mm, and .50 caliber:

Dear Valued Customer:

Please take a moment to note important changes set forth by the Defense Logistics Agency:

Recently it has been determined that fired munitions of all calibers, shapes and sizes have been designated to be Demil code B. As a result and in conjunction with DLA’s current Demil code B policy, this notice will serve as official notification which requires Scrap Venture (SV) to implement mutilation as a condition of sale for all sales of fired munitions effective immediately. This notice also requires SV to immediately cease delivery of any fired munitions that have been recently sold or on active term contracts, unless the material has been mutilated prior to sale or SV personnel can attest to the mutilation after delivery. A certificate of destruction is required in either case.

Thank you,

Re: Event 7084-6200:

Dear Larry Haynie,

Effective immediately DOD Surplus, LLC, will be implementing new requirements for mutilation of fired shell casings. The new DRMS requirement calls for DOD Surplus personnel to witness the mutilation of the property and sign the Certificate of Destruction. Mutilation of the property can be done at the DRMO, if permitted by the Government, or it may be mutilated at a site chosen by the buyer. Mutilation means that the property will be destroyed to the extent prevents its reuse or reconstruction. DOD Surplus personnel will determine when property has been sufficiently mutilated to meet the requirements of the Government.

If you do not agree with the new conditions of your spot sale, please sign the appropriate box provided below stating that you do not agree to the new terms and would like to cancel your purchase effective immediately. If you do agree to the new terms please sign in the appropriate box provided below to acknowledge your understanding and agreement with the new requirements relating to your purchase. Fax the signed document back to (480) 367-1450, emailed responses are not acceptable.

Please respond to this request no later than close of business Monday, March 16th, 2009.

Sincerely,

Government Liquidation.

Update

Paul...here you go......

From a member of another forum:

"I called the NRA-ILA (INSTITUTE FOR LEGISLATIVE ACTION). I spoke with a guy named Eric and he put me on hold for a few minutes till he could get the latest info on this subject.

After returning to the phone he gave me a bunch of info. The NRA is definitely aware of the problem and have heard from some reloaded ammo companies and individuals. Eric rattled off all the DOD agencies invlolved and apparently this may have been "somewhat of a mistake" The ranking DOD agency has heard our concerns and condsiders them VALID!!

Right now, the word is from DOD to the NRA that they hope to have a WAIVER put into place within a two or three weeks which will CORRECT this situation and return once fired brass, .50 caliber and below to the sales policies previously used!!!

Eric said it might be helpful to call our Congressmen just in case and make them aware of the impact on the DOD budget, police training, and inidividual rights."

I was the original poster on several forums regarding this...and, did take some heat about the authenticy of this issue. But, darn it, all I was trying to do is get folks to contact their elected reps to express some concern...just like Eric at NRA-ILA suggested.

It disappoints me that they are so many that would rather naysay and argue someone's intellect. I know there are a lot of times when rumors get started by someone, which starts a lot of needless concern on everyone else.

On the other hand, when you have a majority of folks saying the same thing, from a variety of sources...you'd think that the idea would sink in that there may be some basis to the issue at hand.

In my opinion, this is one of the reasons the pro-gun cause hasn't done as well as it could have over the years.

But, if you study the history of the founding of our great country...you'll find that our fore-fathers were also of strong minds and wills. A lot of "diferences in viewpoints" ended up in duals.

Fortunately, we don't do that today. If we did, the membership on some forums might be fewer.

when i first heard this on another forum, i to asked for some confirmation. no one furnished it. anyone can type up a form and pass it around. sat i got confirmation from a reloading company and a brass processor. on monday i got confirmation form scharch and that is when i went public with what i knew.

having said all that, the nra sucks on most issues. they are part of the problem. they are like all politicians more concerned with keeping thier jobs, than the 2nd ammendment. the back door osha attempt to limit power primer shipping/storage 2 yrs ago was missed by the nra, but they claimed they stopped it..bs. thier comment that this is a mistake( from a politician) is just plain stupid. this is a deliberate attempt to remobe useable brass from resale. there is no mistake except for the response from all voters. the tap dancing answer you got from them is typical....they got blindsided...again!

i questioned several posters on theis subject. no confirmation, most were just passing on data. they had no idea how or where to confirm the data.

on the other side i had one guy claiming it was the brass companies fault for not following the auction rules...what a jerk.

Confirmation

I read the above threads and looked for confirmation. I buy once fired .223 brass from Scharch Manufacturing; or at least I used to. Get on their website, read the DOD notice and note all their .223 once fired brass is 'out of stock.'

Too much credit!

a simple phone call from the white house could cause the dod auction management to make a change, or a signature or ? it takes no vote, no outside input.

It dismays me to think the administration might try such to make gun ownership mute. BUT—too many give the government too much credit! With all going on, “they” certainly could not have jumped in that fast and pulled this off! The Democrats in general, and Obama in particular are good targets for blame when Second Amendment rights are considered.

BUT

This policy had a genesis at least back in June, 2008. The proof is in a document found at the Defense Logistics Agency web site using a simple search. http://www.dla.mil Search for surplus brass demil, or DOD 4000.25-M, DLMS

I just located another document, this a PowerPoint show. The presentation was done by Brian Helmlinger of URS Corporation. They are the number one company in the world dealing with hazardous materials. They are number ten on the list of Military-Friendly Employers, and number 32 on the list of defense contractors.

Mr. Helmlinger’s presentation is “Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard: ‘Doing our homework’” found at, http://proceedings.ndia.org/JSEM2006/Thursday/Helmlinger.pdf was done in 2006. The context is Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH). This contractor’s presentation called for shredding the brass. The equipment showed for this has been in use on major military installations since 2003.

I take it on face value that the motive is to prevent injuries, as Mr. Helmlinger claims. Just as Tom Gresham’s guest and listeners assume there is some conniving going on, another could easily say that URS is behind this because:

1) Maybe they profit from the equipment that shreds brass.
2) Maybe they sell the recycled brass to China.
3) Maybe China sells finished (recycled) brass to cartridge manufacturers who then make small arms ammunition for the military.
4) Then the cycle is repeated.

That “conspiracy theory” is as plausible as one that has the Obama Administration complicit in making ammunition unaffordable.

The sad truth is that good intentions have unknown costs.

Bottom line is

that the present administration has an agenda of limiting, removing, hindering or eliminating (take your pick) the private ownership and or use of firearms of all kinds. Now these people are not dumb, misguided yes, but not dumb. They realize it would be next to impossible to come take your firearms....too many undesirable confrontations. So....they go around the edge. Remove reloadable brass from the market. Increase taxes on all kinds of ammo and components. Increase shipping costs...read hazmat, etc. Making laws about transfer of firearms, even among family members. There are a lot of ways to limit or eliminate the threat of an armed populace. Only a government that is fearful of its subjects would do this. They are not above buying all the products or components of the reloading process. For instance.....what do you think it would cost for the gubment to buy up ALL the primers for instance. How you going to light off a charge without a primer. That or make them so blasted high no one can afford them. I remember when the two Hunt brothers and 3 Saudi's tried to corner the silver market. As I remember they were buying futures and had jacked the price of silver to about $50 an ounce. Now the government can't have someone doing something like this. So they just dumped several million ounces of silver on the market at very low prices. This caused the brokers of the "cartel" to "request" a margin call. The Hunts woke up one morining to a $100 million margin call. Result....silver dropped back to about $12 an ounce. That was back when $100 million was a lot of money. So it don't pay to screw with the government, not as long as they control the printing presses. So if you don't like this idea, get off your butts and start contacting your congressmen/women and those of other states and complain. After all their number one concern is getting reelected. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. We have to make a lot of "squeak". And don't rely on the NRA to do it. We have to have the NRA but they are turning into a mutual admiration society. OK, rant off...........Donald

when i talked to the Scharh's, they said they will probably buy form any reptuable source, probably offer "remanufacturing" and change some machines to pistol calibers.

4) Then the cycle is repeated.

.

sorry but the facts are sold brass is being recalled. recalled from buyers with experience in dealing with live rounds in brass.

the bottom line is that small arms ammo remanufactures are basically being put out of business. it has a small affect on individual reloaders. it is also a waste of money taking a resource/asset to debt. we are in a recession, and they want to add costs.
the line about "exposives" is bs. live ammo is not explosive. lots of tests done on live ammo in fires show "pop", not bang. just more bs to support a position.

it happend on his watch, he is held accountable. plain and simple.

in response to N9QP

This may have been started in 2008, but as some one else pointed out, it happened on the present administrations watch. Since no vote seems to be required, if it was a bad call they should have stopped it.

I don't know if any one else is getting a little tired of this old song of our new leaders about how things are much worse than we thought. How long are they going to ride that horse and place the blame on the previous crew. Maybe our new president should have done a little homework and research before he was quick to apply for the new job. I for one wouldn't have minded if he would have bowed out gracefully when he realized he wasn't up to the requirements of the job.

I don't know if it is going to do any good, but I contacted my Congress Critters today about this anyway. Then sad fact is I'm represented by the majority party here in Virginia. I'm thinking they will feel like this is good thing.

It ain't looking good for the home team.

agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The "Lib Squad" is either feeling pretty stupid or very happy!

AWWW, come ON guys............

you can't think for one INSTANT that this is some wacko wack-job conspiracy, that ONLY YOU are somehow intelligent enough to figure out, can you?? Oh my (sigh) just let this go to the back page. (just paraphrasin' an old quote, guys:D:D) Sometimes the old saying that, "...there are NONE so blind as those who REFUSE to see." means a bunch. But me?? why, I've turned over a new leaf; I have to agree, all those things of which I wrote in some other posts were, when one really carefully examines it, were far-out!! After all, how could any organization w/tons of off the books cash, and unchallenged authority, have the ability to orchestrate some of those most outLANDISH coincidents? The timing involved to make these occurrences coincedentally occur in sequence was humanly impossible!:D So, I've decided to put that all behind me.......I just hope, in the future, I'm not then accused of being a "Coincedence-Theorist".;)
