All 50 cal and smaller surplus brass must be destroyed,

Careful, you don't want to critisize the present administration. Some moderator might delete the thread!

I am seeing reports of a reversal from DOD on this...Mike, can you confirm with your contacts??

Scrapping policy is reversed!!

Copied of another site:

Brass Scrapping Reversed

According to the Montana Shooting Sports Association. This is grassroots advocacy.

Dear MSSA Friends,

I just received a phone call from the office of U.S. Senator Tester of Montana to inform me that at 5:15 (EST) today a letter cosigned by Senator Tester (D-MT) and Senator Baucus (D-MT) was faxed to the Department of Defense asking DoD to reverse its new policy requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass. At 5:30, I am told, Tester's office received a fax back from DoD saying that the brass destruction policy IS reversed.

Others report to me that they are already seeing evidence of this on the Websites of entities that liquidate surplus DoD commodities.

Our thanks go out to Senator Tester and Senator Baucus, and their staff, for getting on this problem promptly and making the reversal happen

Staff for Tester and Baucus promise they will get me the documentation for this reversal tomorrow morning. I'll forward that when I get it.

Best wishes,

Gary Marbut, president

So much for

the rumors. Those that added to this scare tactic, must be feeling at a loss for credibility right about now.

I might be wrong but I don't think rumors are based on fact. The fact is the directive from the DOD was real. You keep thinking its all "Scare Tactics" I'll keep acting on the facts. Did you call your congressmen and complain? I did.
As for credibility, well the only credibility that needs to be questioned is that of your POTUS, congress and senate.

Right on the money, Vinny. ;)

would have to say you are a bit of a fool.

'there was a change, which took a while to confirm, once confirmed action was taken by taxpayers and the change was reversed.

the only loss of credibility is with people like you...who dont have a clue!

Mike,
Well Put !

Not contractors

working for or under the DOD. They are companies who place bids with the government for scrap metals, vehicles and equipment, and auction them off to the highest bidder. No one one knows for sure whether or not any of what was said is true. When words such as, could be, apparently, maybe, are used, something isn't right. Has anyone read a statement from the DOD regarding this???

For what its worth the Glenn Beck show is discussing this same issue as I type. Apparently it was a real directive from the DOD but because of the pressure put on by some select congressmen they reversed the directive for now!

yes...we were not talking auction house(third party auctions...but acutal disposal auctions to reloading /brass processing companies). check the link above. the two companies that do the gi disposal auctions are listed. this same material can often be found on third party auction sites....just a rip off, because you can buy direct.
if you would open your eyes. thier undoing of this issue is posted . you inabiality to find and read does not make us at a loss of credibility....

It was started by a vendor

who was in deep poop. They were selling the empty brass to China where the ammo was being loaded. China sold it to Albania, the US government purchased it dirt cheap from the Albanians and shipped it to our soldiers in Afghanistan. All US made brass. It was after these crooks in Scottsdale promised never to sell outside the US again that the so called reversal took place. It really isn't a big deal. Nothing has changed. It remains available. Want to buy brass from companies who are sending junk ammo to our soldiers? Go for it!

The other posters were kind enough to give a link so we could disseminate what transpired for ourselves.I can get all the editorializing I can handle from network news 24/7.

Other than the sniper units (who roll their own) I never heard of the US forces using reloads....not even in practice ....let alone in theater.
Can any vets confirm?
