    Sako LR61R good or not.

Stonewall, Don't mistake what I wrote. Sako's are good, high quality, rifles. Your example just proves it's hard to make anything fool proof, because fools are so damn engenius. If I could get a Sako at a good price, I'd jump at it, but they usually go for a premium. Just saying though, there...

    Sako LR61R good or not.

I love my old Sako medium action 243. That said, I've seen two Sako receivers of that vintage that had been split like a banana peal from some shooting "accident". I've never seen a 700 split like that. One of the split Sako's was in a local shop and the other was in some pictures on this...

Help with early Hart bench rifle

My memory might have failed me on the '72 date. It's surely a 70's gun. Right now it's a 30 br with a replacement bolt and sits in an Edge stock with a 36X Weaver. Even with a full HV barrel, it still needs lead in the but to get it even close to 13.5 lbs. I shot a match in NJ last year & shared...

proper way to cook a hamster

lot of good calories in a rat & boil'm with ginger Two true stories: I used to eat lunch with a guy that had been a POW. When someone complained of the mess hall food, he had several good comments. "Lot of good calories in a rat!" "If you're lucky you get the soup with the worms in it!" Many...

    Checkering

I've used a stripper called "Rock Miracle" to strip Browning epoxy finishes. It's taken off every finish I've seen, but it's solvent based, not citrus based, so I use solvent with a tooth brush to clean out the checkering after stripping. Anyway, I find a single line 90 degree tool good for...

Help with early Hart bench rifle

My Hart 1a heavy varmint action is in the late 400's. I got it as original: 222 mag Hart barrel, 3-ply wood stock, Hart 2 oz trigger. Hart told me it was made in '72. I also asked who originally ordered it, but they were not able to find that info. Regards, Ron

    remington 700 bolts

Have you completely stripped the action & bolt to check the dragging is not due to firing pin, too long scope base screws, trigger problem, etc? While it's stripped, give it a good scrubbing out to get any grit out. It's most likely a very simple problem. Regards, Ron

Mauser Action: Why or Why Not?

The one & only Turkish Mauser that I worked on surprised me - a large ring action with small ring threads. The lesson is for over a 100 yrs, they made them any way they wanted. Regards, Ron

    What's a great gun oil ?

Give Marvel Mystery Oil a try. It's a good penetrating oil, smell good, & is cheap. I use it to clean shotgun barrels & haven't had any problems with rust. Regards, Ron

    stripping AcraGlas from steel.

"parts look like something passed by a disgruntled bovine" LOL Freezing works well for removing glued in actions, but have you considered sanding the glass & then painting the part? Regards, Ron

My foid card call in came back denied today. WTH!!!!

The old FOID. I had one from 68-72 when I left. Years later I was visiting & my mother told me to go shoot that coon that was making a mess. So I went down to the town hardware store where i'd bought 22's when I was a young teenager & asked for a box of 22LR. The response was, "let me see your...

    700 Factory Trigger W/Safety Onto 722 Receiver

I broke one trying to bend it. The next one I just put the receiver in the mill & made the clearance. The easiest way is to use an old trigger from a 722. Regards, Ron

    Action truing options

The standard tap does have the advantage of being able to set back the barrel a few of threads & re-fit it.

    Action truing options

Dennis, We have some instrument with quick change nuts on them - nut that are bored at an angle to the threads. Once the are loos e, just tipping them sideways lets them pull off. So I can see how tipped threads can be cleaned up with the standard tap. However, what about threads that are offset...
