remington 700 bolts

Has anyone else noticed the slop in the jeweled bolts it seams like they are starting with a finished bolt then doing the machining it would seam to me you would want to start with an unfinished bolt so it fit tighter when complete it made me go get my mic and it is .002 smaller in the jeweled part and .004 smaller than my other two at it
 
The part that is jeweled doesn't really matter if it is 'loose'... just the part within the rear bridge when the bolt is closed is what you want close...

the jeweling makes it feel like it has sand in it and I have never used it been in the box the other post made me think to check the Remington book gives .697 minimum spec the feeling that it is grinding has to matter and the bolt has slop at battery

the action is .702 it is spec sleeve a new gun? or take it to the range to see what it does

IF,you out shoot the rifle-re-barrel/work it.
IF, you don't out shoot the rifle-shoot the barrel out & then re-work it.

I seriously doubt you will see any accuracy problem that could be blamed on the diameter of the bolt in any factory 700. It's really nit picking.

it is not so much the slop it is the fact it feels like it is filing the action the gun has the factory target barrel so you think it would have a fitted bolt
 
Do the tighter fitting bolts on nesika actions shoot better than the not so tight fitting bolts on panda's? Last I heard the jury is still out on that one. I once had a 40X that had a bolt that was nearly .016 (1/64) under the reciever I.D. I sleeved it and it shot good but it shot good before that, so go figure!

It is probably the magazine follower being rubbed by the jewelling... fire a bunch of rounds with no hearing protection and you won't notice it any more...
 
it is so pronounced it is felt even after 30 rounds (took it out today) you feel it after the nose is past the breach looks like the bolt is dragging in the rear so the jeweling is riding on the action looking for track marks to find what needs polishing or bushing

my mother made bomb fuses in the war she looked and said wouldn't pass in ww2 thought I would give you all a laugh

If she makes a new on I will post pics!
 
Have you completely stripped the action & bolt to check the dragging is not due to firing pin, too long scope base screws, trigger problem, etc? While it's stripped, give it a good scrubbing out to get any grit out. It's most likely a very simple problem.

all the marks are on the bottom of the so to out bore scope started looking at the action right at the front of the notch for the trigger group there is an un finished edge guess I take it all apart check for any other unfinished edges polish it head space it and finish breakin see what it can do
