My Experience with a Kreiger barrel ..............

Roy, I've got a few amazingly straight bbls from Krieger. Superb product. Broughton bbls are also very straight, at least the dozen or so of them I've had in the lathe. Ben

    Gunsmith for a living

Good post Scott...and it hits home. I think I was about 15 when I made my first blackpowder cannon on a belt drive lathe at the farm. I didn't know how to sharpen a toolbit, but I picked up a book and figured it out.

    Gunsmith for a living

The economy has hit guns I think finally. A lot of stuff at the Julia auction this weekend went really low. You should see some of the mausers that they had and how cheap they went. Some Griffin and Howe customs est at $8-10K went for <5k, and some of Duane Wiebe customs est $20-30k went for...

Any Bets on What the Quake Costs US Taxpayers?

Not in the short term. Eventually, the minerals will deposit and interfere with heat transfer, but I'm sure the hope is they will have the fuel under control and switched back to FW by then.

    Gunsmith for a living

The best advice I could give for someone that wanted to make a living as a gunsmith is to go get an education in sales and marketing. You'd starve to death building rifles for benchrest shooters...too many of them own lathes. Look at businesses like Ed Brown and GAP for profit margins...

    6.5x47 lapua ya or na

I have a 30 BR, 30x47, 6.5x47 and 6.5x284 and I enjoy shooting them all. I recently started shooting the 6.5x47L at 100, 300 and 600 yards. Both my 6.5's are no turn (skim), but I find the 6.5x47 easier to shoot in a light gun. I do not have a 6BR to compare it to, but I would give it a double...

How to tell if a M700 action was trued?

Give it to a gunsmith and have them check it. Just because it was hacked on, doesn't mean its trued, moreover, trued to what.

    Grinding HSS bits

http://web.mit.edu/2.670/www/Tutorials/Machining/lathe/Description.html This guide is ok, but a machinst manual would be better. Some people get excited about a chip breaker, but I never liked using one much, it makes resharpening more of a pita. A right turn facing tool, 60 deg threading and...
