    Jb bore paste

Max here's a counter point to your story. Told only for the sake of comparison so no offense intended. About a year ago I decided I wanted a SAVAGE left bolt right port rifle. I also knew there was only one way to achieve it. That being with a Savage striker action in a custom inletted stock...

    Aren't 6 1/2's strictly for 22 hornet?

    RCBS Partner Primer catcher

Mine(brand new) sucks I wish it would fall off and get lost. It's the only flaw in an otherwise excellant press.

    TC Encore 6br

If it shoots like mine you can expect to unscrew the barrel and use it for a tomato stake. I have tried every possible combination of powder and bullets known to man. I have also installed the magic 40 dollar machined 2 piece hinge pin and floated the ears on the side of the forearm all to no...

    Bore Tech Eliminator

I have used Eliminator for a couple of years WITH the nickle plated jags. My experience is very simple if the patches are still coming back blue then you still have copper. I recently swtiched to the Bore Tech, 2 cleaner system where the carbon cutter and the copper cutter are separate and I...

Which powder for .223 & heavy bullets??

TAC with 69gr Sierra MK's Rem 71/2 primer. My load is 24.7gr start a little lower even thought that is not a max load. Excellant metering qualities, burns clean for a ball powder and is very accurate.

Removing Imperial Sizing Wax from cases

I size my cases using imperial wax and then dump them in the tumbler for 15 min. Works great for cleaning off the wax. The only downside is getting media in the flash holes. I use lee trim studs for case length prep and usually just use one of those to clean out the flashole. I have also just...

    T/c icon

Thanks Ginner. In this case it looks like the rifle had been fired numerous times, and then put away dirty as heck. You just don't get that kind of erosian at the muzzle in a couple of rounds. Now here's the kicker. You talked about test firing. The target I got with the rifle was not a real...

    T/c icon

Well after 2 yrs of convincing myself I needed one I finally bought one. Unpacked the rifle and checked it out from stem to stern. Fit and finish was excellant. It is the Stainless synthetic in .243. Decided to clean it, adjust the trigger, and mount the scope. It all went pretty well till I...

Sorry To Have To Post This

I have belonged to the UAW,Steelworkers,Mineworkers, and OCAW. Was a Local President in the Steelworkers. Back in 1980, I sat in a negociation with the Steelworkers where the company offered us as much in the first offer as we had planned to ask for total. My response was let's vote yes and go...

    Krieger Gain Twist barrels

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the drawer but since they are strictly for 100-200yd benchrest my first thought was that it meant 1.250 at the breach and 1.250 at the bore. Is that not the case?

Is Truing a Savage Target Action different than a Remington?

I just had Fred Moreo true and time a Savage Striker action for me. I believe he charged around $105.00. I'm pretty sure that did not include any set screws to pin anything in place. It did however include a new bearing in the bolt to reduce cocking resistance and recutting the cocking ramp. He...

    elk steaks on the grill

The Buttermilk is great for removing a wild or Gamey taste. Actually there's a better chance of that grass fed steer tasting gamey than some of the Elk I've had. Nothing beats good Elk. If we are having something young and tender we will usually forego the marinade and just salt and pepper it.

    elk steaks on the grill

Was gonna stay out of this but here goes: First and foremost. Cut the darned steaks at least 3/4 to 1 in thick. If you wanna dip them in olive oil that's fine. But Good Seasons or any good Italian dressing works just fine also. After they have marinated for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few...

    Harrells Premium Powder Measurer

This may not be the place to ask but does anybody know anything about a powder measure made by a company out of Az called RFD knives. It says it's a culver type powder measure. I just picked up one from an estate sale and it seems to be VERY well made and so far extremely accurate. They're...

    Savage wins Hickory Groundhog shoot

I've been gone from this forum for a long time and one of the reasons I quit reading and posting here was the Varmint Guy issue or should I say the Savage issue. I am back and one of the best things I have seen yet is someone finally shut up the VG. For the record I have set up and loaded for...

Not a good cartridge for a lot of reasons. Brass being one of them. My friend almost blew his head off with one. You couldn't give me one on a bet. Hot and dangerous.

    Remington Accuracy

Here's a quick story that will maybe help. My insurance agent called me about a month ago and says I need your help to buy an Elk rifle, what should I get. I say a Model 16 Savage in 300WSM just like the one I have used for the last two years. Well he did and here's what happened. We took it...
