    I am ready to spring for - - -

If you can move a thousand pounds or so and have access to 3 phase power (or are not opposed to a phase converter), an older Bridgeport mill would be my first choice. A used one can be had for the price of any benchtop mill that you would want to consider. R8 collets, a 42" table, power feed...

    .22 hornet to .22 k hornet

My brother had Winchester 43 that had been modified to a "K". He had problems with firing standard hornet cartridges in it, about half of the cases would split. Just a warning.

    Barrel slugging

While I am certain that the Krieger people know more about barrels than I ever will, it occurs to me that the 50,000 psi occurs behind the bullet. How this would impart an oversize condition in the bore for the bullet to pass through would make for an interesting discussion.

    Headspace and presure

Another way to adjust your brass for the headspace of a particular rifle is to use an expander to open the neck to an oversize condition (say a .338 plug in a .308 cartridge) and then re-size the neck to the proper size. You need to set your die to where the bolt will close on the case with...

    Is this pressure indicator?

Headspace???? If it is occurring with new factory ammo. He could be pushing the shoulder back on his reloads.

    Pellet lubes

I find that after 75 or so pellets, my accuracy suddenly goes south. I am using RWS Meisterkugeln Rifle .177 Cal, 8.2 Grains and get great accuracy up to that point. Shooting a pair of Beeman's felt cleaning pellets (both at the same time) with synthetic lube on the first one seems to be all...

    6 mm remington

H4831 is a great powder for cartridges approaching "magnum" bore/case ratios. I use it with great results in my 6mm Rem, 30-06 (non-Garand) and 7.5 X 55 Swiss. While Hodgdon shows data for all 3 of the OP's powders, I agree that he would be happier using H4831.

    6 mm remington

In that it is marked as a 6mm Remington, you should be able to use any 6mm bullet. IIRC, it should have 1:10 twist. The .244 had a 1:12 and would not stabilize anything over 87 grains.

What kind of gun? Please help

Probably my fault, I have a tendancy to throw extraneous data into a discussion. I'll be having a beer in about 4 hours. Cheers!

What kind of gun? Please help

AeroE, My apology for stepping on your toes. I was merely trying to expand on the history of the .244/6mm for a newbie.

What kind of gun? Please help

Write for clairity..... ,244 is NOT an obsolete version of the 6mm CARTRIDGE. It is the same cartridge renamed.

What kind of gun? Please help

Actually there is NO difference between the .244 Remington and the 6mm Remington cartridge. The difference is in the rifles so marked. The .244 was a slower twist and got it's clock cleaned by the similar in performance .243 Winchester. The .244 was unable to handle the heavier 100 grain...

    100 yd shooting tunnel

I have access to a 4 position 100 yd tunnel within 5 miles of my home. Unfortunately, they have no facility for prone shooting and anything off of a rest is awkward (standing only). They do have an electronic target system that will show you a plot of your groups. You cannot hang a paper...

    100 yd shooting tunnel

I have considered building a 50 yd tunnel out of truck tires. There is a dealer nearby that has to pay to get rid of 50 to 100 per week. The down side is that you would only have a 24" diameter tunnel, but you could have movable platforms from which you could shoot positions. It would...

    K31 Swiss mauser

I forgot to mention that .308" is the right diameter - Thanks. I picked up some 173 gr FMJBT pulls from Pat's Reloading a while back, but I don't see them on their site now. http://www.patsreloading.com/patsrel/prices.aspx?category=All They are also a good source for bulk powders.

    K31 Swiss mauser

I would recommend a BTHP or FMJBT in the 168 to 180 gr range. Mine likes H4831 in any amount from a starting load to max. Brass is another problem. The Swiss (GP-11) surplus is Berdan primed, but Prvi Partisan is Boxer. I bought 200 rounds of brass from Graf & Sons a number of years ago...
