New 600 Yard Shooter Needs Help

Walker, I shoot informal 600 yard br at one range and 1000 yard F class at another. Get the 6br and never look back. I bought a Savage target action and screwed a shilen in the end of it. It will work fine. And I use Lynn's recipe up to the bullet, instead of 107MK's I use Berger 105gr vld's.

    is it legal?

I am in no way up to snuff on ATF laws and I may be wrong, but it was my understanding that if an action is designated as a rifle action you must keep it a rifle which in this case you are doing although you are changing it from a muzzleloader to a cf. I believe it's illegal to convert a rifle...

How many ranges near where you live?

Tom, there is a new facility outside of Blakely in sw Ga. My first trip there was today shooting 1k. Very nice. Check it out at www.marksmanshipacademy.com (watch the video)The monthly schedule is posted on the website. Log cabins for rent on the property to stay in. There has been some big...

Do you think that unlimited scope magnification = better shot placement?

The answer to your question will most likely be personal preference. As for me though, I've recently gone up in magnification from 20x to 36x for 600 yard competition. It seems to have helped me and my scores though mirage is worse. The scope I used before was a variable Leupold 6.5-20x, now I'm...

    Targets

The problem is clearly that you were shooting Fusions when you should have been shooting those Hornady 200gr. at 3600fps. This is not a true comparison here. Rematch in the future?:) It's great to have friends like this........

    what bullet for this throat

I have a 6br with .120" freebore. It was throated for the 105gr. vld and that's what I shoot in it in 600yd matches. Seated into the lands the bottom of the vld will be right at the neck/shoulder junction. This will give you some room to play with as the throat erodes. Good luck......

    Carbon River Wind flags

David, just to clarify, this wasn't a BR supplier I had the problem with. What little interaction I've had with BR shooters has been great. As soon as I throw a few $$ together, I'm in need of a set of your flags.

    Fast!!!

This is getting good. Other than the wording in the rule book, is there another reason some of you are opposed to this device? Just curious. For the record, I can see Jackie's point of view and I can see Gene's regarding how the rulebook is worded. Glenn, good call on helping people with...

Wilson seater stem biting into VLDs

It is a real problem when running light neck tension. Before I got the VLD stem from Wilson, I was either pulling bullets out of the casing or changing my COL because it was pulling the bullet part way out of the case from the bite of the seater on the bullet.

Is Lawton Machine out of business or going out?

I will pass that on about contacting BATF. Being a credible name like Lawton, I can't imagine them stiffing anybody. This guy has had several instances where he has corresponded with them through both telephone and email. Everything was going to plan and when he thought he was about to get his...

    Tubb bore polishing system

One thing I've read in several places is using the Tubbs system will erode the throat and cause you to have to seat bullets further out. If you reload you may not want that. I don't have any experience with this system though so take it for what it's worth.

Is Lawton Machine out of business or going out?

Got a friend who is having Lawton Machine fit a barrel to one of their actions for a rifle build. Over two months ago he was promised the barreled action in 6 weeks. He has since left several messages(nobody answers the phone anymore) and sent approximately a dozen emails that haven't been...

Any of you guys on twitter?

I guess y'all are right. What was I thinking to even bring something like that up? I mean, people are always asking for results on here and are at the mercy of someone at the match to log on(maybe) to give those results. I guess that's the way it's always been and just part of the benchrest...

Any of you guys on twitter?

Well, you hardly need a computer to use twitter. An internet enabled cell phone with the twitter app and you're up and running. As far as time at the range, it takes just seconds to send a tweet. Ever heard of Google? Better yet, let's make it easy.... http://twitter.com

Any of you guys on twitter?

In the era of information, just wondering if any of you shooters that run the circuit are on twitter? If so, I would love to follow you for updates while you are at matches. In fact it would be a great way for us to keep up with realtime events at the match. Who's hot, what strange occurence has...
