Windage problem...Question?

MarlowJoe,

I have found several Rem 700 actions, and one Rem 40X action with the scope holes drilled off center. This is a common problem. When this happens there are several solutions. The best solution I have found is the Holland's Perfect Picatinny Rail Mount. It is adjustable for windage! Check it out at http://hollandguns.com/

Thx for the heads up on this. I will look into it. measured as Al said and found out my barrel is out of whack also. Measured from the bore using a very tight fitting steel insert (rod) it is around seventy-five thousandths off center. So off to the smith again. Not sure how much deflection that would cause on a 30" barrel. But oh well :)

Compounded errors

When a rifle is out of alingment by this much it is usually a series of errors all compounded on one another in the same direction. The scope holes could be off a little. The chamber out of centre a tiny amount, the barrel a tiny fraction bent and so on. Each time you correct an issue it will improve a small amount but you may have to address several of them before the windage adjustment comes back to a reasonable setting.
Just with most things in life there is seldome a simple single cure.
Andy.

I know they straighten barrels at the Savage factory with force applied. Sounds a little odd, but it may work well in this case.
