I just bought one of the original style M52 (with the barrel band) in excellent condition except that someone has added an extra 1-1/2" to the buttstock. It is a very good, wrokmanlikle job of matching the grain but I want to get it back to the original LOP. Does anyone know what that original LOP actually was?

Thanks.

I assume when you say "barrel band", you are referring to the models with the heavy forging band that went around forearm and barrel. Models with the wide Marksman stock (only B&C) models used a barrel band as well. However this was a very thin sheet metal band that wrapped around barrel only, and was used to adjust tension on barrel. Winchester 52's with heavy forged barrel bands, span from s/n 1 to the early 70,000's, the last of which were B models. Very early 52's up to approximately s/n 4000 had a LOP of 12-3/4". All 52's with barrel bands after this point will have a 13-1/4" LOP.
