Why You Should Sort Your Pellets

I just got done measuring the head size on about 600 pellets(one full tin + part of another). Its the first time I've ever done this and I was thinking about quitting about halfway through, with about 90% of the pellets falling between 4.43-4.45mm and the ones outside that group not much smaller, 4.40-4.42(tin was marked 4.51 by the way).
An hour and a half into the chore, with the pile down to 50 or so pellets, I found the one that was going to screw me over big time. 4.05!. I had a pellet go two bulls to the left and a row down on me last week. Guess I know why now!

Todd,

Remind me to show you what I found when we're in S.C. Not as dramatically showing as what you found, but still interesting.

Pellets

As you know Tod I have sorted 1000 +++ pellets in the last 6 months . I hate doing it . But for that 1-10 that you do find way light --heavy or way small or big you wood not get much by doing it . I do not have all mine sorted ,but what the hake we leave to moral afternoon .I have lots of time .

I have been sorting my CF Match bullets for a number of years now. With them, it's the length of the ogive slope that matters but the results of shooting one that is over .001 different is very noticable. Obviously one is trying to find the 5 or 6 in 1000 that are .005 or .006 different.

Years ago I remember seeing a press for uniforming pellets. Do they still exist?

Thanks,

Pete

Don,t know about a press but, many years ago when import of Air Guns started I imported many FWB Rifles and Pistols. One of the things I found, was never change lots in the middle of a string and use a sizer to confirm size and uniformaty on the skert.
I have a sizer from a fellow air gun shooter from Canada and a copy made by Don Nigard. Both hand held..Still works great and is easy to use on the line with out wasting time.

Cheers

Minor correction Don Nygord, Don was a national pistol champ, sadly he passed away a few years back.
