Which patches do you use?

I buy the bulk .30 cal flannel patches and cut them into quarters.. Plus, I can use the .30 caliber patches to clean my tuner..Cheap and works for me.

I go to the cotton fields and pick the cotton then weave the patches on my own loom that I got at the flea market. Cheaper that way. I'll not pay a penny a patch.

I'm with the 1 1/4" round crowd along with using a Myers' Rod and Jag. Bill recommended using 1 1/4" when he sent the rod.

Same tip as Joe and Dave, came with my Myers rod.

Beau, maybe you should start selling those patches to those of us who do have to pay a penny for a patch. Supplement your income and help the shooting community as a side benefit. Cotton fields are few in this area.

Maybe I should at that. When they're done, they're either 1.25" square or 1.25" round. I have no problem with either. The rod I use is a Denny Phillips with and integral jag. I think the diameter is .1875. They work very well, but are very tight in the bore with a big jag like a Dewey rod would have.

I would not want to use synthetic because the synthetic I have seen seem to slide in the bore rather than removing residue. I also won't use the Hoppe's special that is available at Wal-Mart because my rod will go right through them. Sometimes at the breech; sometimes mid-barrel.

Well, back to fields.

Beau,
Weave a few linen threads into the patches to strengthen 'em. If you don't have linen close by you can substitute hemp.
