What would be a good rifle to start out with

I shoot center fire benchrest 100 and 200 now and my son has gotten very interested in shooting with me. He wants to start shooting in some competions and I want to start him out shooting rimfire. Can someone help me out with what rifle would be the best one to get for him. Thanks
 
Get a good 40X. You both can shoot it and over time if you want you can up-grade it into a competitive rifle. Find out what brand of match ammo it likes and shoot as often as your budget allows.
Don't forget good rests and always use wind flags.
Are we deeper than your pockets yet? If not I can continue.
 
I have flags and rest for him to use just wasnt sure what rifle to be looking for. What is the more popular ammo that is shot and what is the best place to get it?
 
If you buy a used rifle ask the previous owner what the rifle likes, they may also include some in the deal..........
