What kind of fps can I expect?

Now that I have all the components for my 6mm Norma BR what velocity can I expect with 105 gr. Match Bergers. I have gone from wanting the barrel to be 30" to 28" and now 26". I am really worried about the balance in a 2 1/2 pound synthetic tactical stock. I guess I want EVERYTHING all rolled up in one if you know what I mean. I do not want to carry a telephone pole.

Most of my shooting will be at 100 and 200 yds. and some at 600 + yards.

The barrel is a Brux 4 groove 1 in 8" twist. Am I going to loose a lot if I lop it off at 26"? I could always drop down to 90 grainers for long range couldn't I?

I did a pretty extensive test for the 6mmbr.com web site a few years back on this subject.I used my Rail Gun.

I think the 28 inch barrel is optimum for the 6BR in 1-8 while shooting the big 105-107 grn bullets. You do not loose much at all from 32 inches to 28, but it will drop off at 26.

If you go over to that site, you will see some excellent discussions about this topic.

My main goal was to see just how accurate a 6br could be with the long range style bullets. Many of the components that are so popular proved not to be up to the task when it came to "Benchrest Accuracy". One in particular was Varget Powder, which is the mainstay in F-Class. I never found the accuracy potential with it as I did Reloader 15 and N135 and N140.

Also, I found Sierra Matchkings to be what I would call "semi custom" match bullets. Sure, better than your standard hunting fair, but when compered to true match bullets, such as the Berger offerrings, they left a lot on the table.

I was able to achieve 3000 fps with little hassle with the 28 inch tube and the 105 Bergers. Accuracy was outstanding. But, that is certainly the upper end of the pressure curve, and I doubt it would be suitable for anything short of a Rifle built on a Custom Action.

Go over to 6BR.com and read the article. Plus, there is also a wealth of knowledge from those who shoot the 6BR on a regular basis.......jackie
