What is it?.

I traded for this rifle about three years ago and then stuck it in the closet.
Recently I got curious about it and started calling around To see if anybody knew anything about it.
I called Shilen because that was the name on the sleeve. They called me back and said they could not identify it.It has gosh awful ugly stock made from some laminate that looks like walnut. It has a Remington action and looks like a Jewell trigger(No safety).Unless it’s something worth keeping I’m thinking of taking the sleeve off and getting a stock that fits it and use it for Benchrest.

Greg,

Just guessing, but I would say it is a Heavy Varmint class short range BR rifle. may have been built back in the '70's, when the Slilen family owned the business. The stock is a Shilen laminate that they were making about that time. The bolt must be an after market piece, as Rem. bolts were not coned on the front end nor fluted like that one is. If the barrel is an 8 grooves, it is probably a Shilen. What is it chambered for? If it is not a PPC, it is maybe pre 1975 vintage.
Whatever it is I would take it out and shoot it just to see how good or bad it might be. Keep us posted if you shoot it.

Thanks Steve at least you were able to solve some of the mystery.I have shot it before but it difficult to get it to fit in my front and rear bags.It is chambered in 6BR.
