What Front Rest are you using?

Currently using a modified Caldwell Fire Control Rest but am considering upgrading.

Considering a Shade Tree Top for my Bald Eagle Rest or buying a Farley or Sinclair Competition BR Rest.

What are you guys using and can you recommend a rest or provide insight as to the positives and negatives of various rests?

Regards,

Tony

Tony,

I use a Fulghum front rest.

Pros, conforms to the International rules, ultra precise, things move when you want and stay there without a hint of backlash, Ken is a great to deal with, available with different tops, one takes a bag, one doesn't have to, available in different colors and heavy enough to stay where you put it without needing a forklift to move it.

Cons, there is one screw that I wish was in a different place but that would be nitpicking.

I had a John Loh front rest, another great choice. The Bald Eagle is another excellent model.

The one piece rests are very popular but do not conform to the International rules but who cares if you are playing in the new Open/Unlimited class with .22 caliber barrels and 32 FPE. Pappas, Hall/Von Ahrens, Fulghum and some others no longer being made keep things perfectly aligned.

I use the Shade Tree on an old Midway front rest. Works great for me.

Thanks Larry, with the Shade Tree Top, once you are on target:

1) Do you have to hold the joystick while you break your shot?

2) Or can you let go of it and the crosshairs won't move after breaking your shot?

Tony

Hi Roger! Thanks, as I asked Larry, with the Shade Tree Top, once you are on target:

1) Do you have to hold the joystick while you break your shot?

2) Or can you let go of it and the crosshairs won't move after breaking your shot?

Glad to be here, not sure the bank account is gonna be happy with the latest facet of the Airgun Addiction, lol!!! Hope to shoot one of the BR Matches down south at LD's once I get dialed in a bit.

Tony

As I am still getting used to the way it works I hold the joy stick. I think that it might need a little more tension but I will leave it the same for right now. Just as long as I beat Frank.
Larry

I have the tension high so I don't have to hold to shoot. Most of my shots I'm holding.
Roger

Thanks Larry!

Yes. Get three flags. Learn to read them. Better USFT ideas come from LDs head if he loses.
Roger

Thanks, am going to order flags today

gonna get some of the regular directional and some of the up/down flags as well.

LD and everyone else thinking about next year's worlds needs to power down to sub 20fpe and start practicing at that power level.

Tony

Dunno, never shot one of those targets at 25 yards/meters but

There is an easy way to tell if you are ready for the Worlds in 2011. Check out the scores that Larry Burchfield recently shot on the international target at 25 meters,

http://www.usairriflebenchrest.com/2573.html

If you can beat that, then you are ready.

I did shoot this 5 shot group at 25 yards:

I was expecting a 50 yard game...at least that's the game shot at my club and was expecting for next year, either way, will have a go at! :D

Didn't know Mike V. shot BR, surpised he isn't using his Grand Prix...

Very Nice

Tony,

If you can put 5 of those together, consecutively, you are definitely ready. Good luck. The target is on the website, download it and have it printed on 100 pound non-gloss paper. Easy to practice.

Last month I beat LDs 22 with my 177 at 25 yards. Sub 20fpe sticking with my 177. Roger

Wow, when did you guys start doing the 25 yard game down there?!?!

Last month I beat LDs 22 with my 177 at 25 yards. Sub 20fpe sticking with my 177. Roger

Or was this match not at LD's? Were you using an HW or LW barrel?

SD range LW no polishing . The USFT I had last sunday at FT. Roger

Thanks....hmmm, LW eh?!?! Choked, Unchoked, Standard or Polygon?!?! I've been playing with a couple Polygons(.17), choked and unchoked, signs of OMG Laser Guided Groups at 50yds., more testing to come...seems like its a pellet sorting issue...pellets seem to group better the faster I drive them through the Polygons...have one LW Standard/Choked barrel, what a ridiculous choke, pushing a pellet through is like pushing a wine cork into the bottle with your pinky!!! :-(

Gonna open up the choke...

Tony
