My guess is that it was installed on the date 12/1984 and it is a .338 bore with a 1-10 twist....serial number (of the action) 5714...

So all the markings were done by the smith? I guess I just wanted to know if there is a "standard" way to mark them, and if anything at all was put on be the manufactuers.

I have barrels that are unmarked, some that are marked with little more than a scratch awl/electric pencil, and others that are stamped. Factory-installed OEM barrels will be marked. Others, it's up to the installer. Me, I'd always appreciate knowing what the barrel was chambered to fit.
