what about twist rates, use to your advantage

Why would the overall length matter at all with the twist rate? the only part effected by the twist is what is in contact with the twist. anything on the ogive that is smaller than the lands will have nothing to do with how the rifling engages.

I may be wrong, ya learn something new every day anyway.

MMG, I don't know how old you are, but when I and just a few others on here were kids, we used to have wood tops to play with. There were long skinny tops & short fat tops. You had to spin the long skinny tops much faster to get them to stand up straight & run true then you did the short fat tops. As they slowed down in RPM's, the skinny long tops would start to wobble off center much earlier then the short fat tops. Think of it in those terms. It's not the bearing surface...it's the length of the bullet that determines the RPM's needed to make it spin true.
 
Kind of off-topic, but why hasn't the Harold Vaughn book been reprinted? They could obviously sell them.
