Friends:

What 6 X scopes are popular and being used in hunter class? (i.e. lightweight)

Thanks in advance,

Migs

I see some guys using their variable power scopes that they like (assuming weight is not an issue) with the magnification ring taped to 6 power.

That is the reason for my question. I reason there must be some low weight favorites out there, and knowing these will save me a lot of time hunting for the right one! Thanks!

(...and of course: WEIGHT is a pressing concern)

except that

I use Burris straight 6X scopes.
They are a very good scope and the Burris guarantee is second to none.

Burris no longer makes the 6 HBR scope. They will only refund your money or sell you a different (variable) scope.

The only 6x scope currently made is a Leupold. The most favored scope is the old steel T-6 scopes after they have been gone thru by the Ackermans. Cheryl is now running things and doing a great job.

I own at last count 6 of the T-6's and have shot them for the last 20 years. I would not shoot any other.

Want another one David?

I have a very cherry one I would part with.

So where could I go (a link maybe) to see the gear the top shooters are using? Do any of you know?

Thanks for your comments!

Try Bruno's shooter supply. That's where I purchased my Leupold 6 X Hunter scope. Great scope! Weaver also still makes a 6X Hunter scope. It is a fine scope, but the Leupold gives about another inch of eye relief. Either scope will fill the bill. Most of the Hunter class shooters I shoot with use either the Leupold or Weaver. One still has the old Burris scope.

A 4.5 x 14 Mark 4 Leupold, light weight very clear great scope.

But why give up the magnification? Are there any scopes that you can think of that suit the specific sport? (i.e. low weight for the 10 lb rifle + scope limit)

said earlier that the only one making a dedicated 6X scope for BR now is Leupold. What this poster suggested is just buying a variable scope, set it at 6X and tape it there...that is legal. However most non BR designed scopes are 1/4' adjustment scopes not 1/8' that allows for finer aim point tuning.

References to the Burris 6x is to a scope they no longer make, ditto Weaver.

Interesting that the scope manufacturers would not have made something specific. I wonder what variable scope the Benchrest shooters are using for hunter class. Any common scope that you all are aware of?

Thanks for all the input all!

in the ibs

there are not many 6 power shooters, but most seem to be using leupolds 6x that is currently made and old burris or weaver.

There are many more 6x shooters in nbrsa but they don't post their match results on their webpage. you have to be a member and login to see them. sorry!

I've had a couple of the new Leups

but didn't like either one of them. They weren't 1/8" click and weren't as bright as many of the other scopes I've had. I am currently using the old Burris scopes. I found a pristine shiny black one a few years ago and I can see the rings with it. It is absolutely reliable. The other is a silver Burris, a newer vintage but the same era, before the series that have the adjustable ocular lens. It too is very sharp and has been stone reliable. Some claim they can't get the parallax completely out of them but of all of them I've had, I never had an issue with them.

Another great 6X scope, if you can find one is the Sightron HBR. I have two of them and they are great as well. Big glass in them and bright. Found one this fall like new so it came home with me. I have shot it and it is true.

The best thing I can say for Leups is they still make them and they have a great warranty. Ive never seen fit to spend the big money for the custom variables. Never figgered they made any difference.

Thank you Pete. I'll Google about and see about that sightron. My current sight is a Leupold but it's a hunting scope so I seek to upgrade. Unfortunately I'm over the weight limit with the Leupold. That's why I'm looking.
