Well more rambling about scopes.

WOW! Yesterday I drove about 75 miles one way to see one of the Sightron scopes since I have never looked at or through one before. When I got to the place they didn't have any in stock. What a bummer!!!

They did have a Leupold Mark 4 Extended Range Tactical M1 Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 6.5-20x 50mm Side Focus First Focal Mil-Dot Reticle Matte. Man was this nice. It was on sale with tax included for $400.00 less than what Midway was asking. Boy was I ever tempted except one of the guys at the range had a 40x Leupold target scope which go for less than a grand and after looking through it I think that I want a 8-32x50 or 56 instead of a 6.5-20x50mm.

I have 2 other 8-32 power scopes, but want to get a good one this time or maybe I should get the 40 or 45x Leupold Benchrest target scope. Most of my shooting will be at 100 and 200 yards. For long range hunting I could always use my 8-32x40mm Mil-Dot Bushnell with a 20 degree Picatinny rail for extended long range.

Maybe the old saying that "bigger is better".

What do you guys think?

I recently traded

my Frozen Leup 45 x for a 40 x because I thought the 45 was too much magnification for 100 yds! :D

GT40,

Do you want a tactical scope or do you want a benchrest scope. Seems like there is a world of difference in the two.

Do you need to make a certain weight? 10.5, 13.5, 17.5 lbs?

I'd like the best of both. I doubt I will be happy with one for both kinds of shooting. I'll probably keep adding to my collection.

I really did like that 40x Leupold with a fine cross hair & 1/8 dot for benchrest shooting. I'll probably end up with one and finally be happy.

My dad and I were at the range, me with a 4.5-14x and he with a 6-18x. I was fine at 14x but he couldn't go up to 18x with the mirage. It was like a fog we were looking through at 100 yards. Temps were over 100 degrees here in North Texas. Not sure how the humidity in Georgia would further affect mirage.

Nightforce 12-40x BR scope sounds like a better option than a Leupold 45x for shooting through mirage.

GO March

gt40,

I started with the 40 X Leupold 1/8" dot, went to a Bigsky Sightron, then got a 50 March. What you see now in my gun room is a Leupold and Sightron in boxes and a really good scope on my gun.

Look through your shooting buddies scopes prior to making the investment.
