Welding a bottom on a M70.

Hi.
I want my guns single shot, cant help it.
I have a M70 post 64 that I was thinking maybe welding a plate inside the magazine cutout.
It probably is 4130 or 4140. It would certainly stiffen the action. Just thinking a few spots, not the whole way around.
Has anyone done that?

I haven't done it, but it has been done.. I would suggest lightly tacking it using a wire gun or tig .... one tack at a time letting it cool between.

Or just epoxy it in place...?

I agree with dennis on the epoxy. If you weld on the action at all you will make it move. After you weld it how much truing will you do to correct what strength you added? People would be surprised how much metal moves from any amount of any type of arc welding that you do.

I've seen a lot of plates put in a lot of actions with epoxy, generally augmented with two or three cross pins - tapered if you have the gear & skill.

I´m convinced now, no welding.
Did actually weld up a thump groove on a mauser once. It took a lot to straighten it again even if I had it all boltet down while welding.
Thanks all.
