What should a rifle weigh, without barrel or scope? Lookin for what it should weigh with stock, action, trigger, scope bases. Would be used in LV and HV benchrest. Would a gun set up as I described above at 5lb6oz be to heavy to use as a LV? Thanks Tony

I shoot very light barrels, only at 76 ounces. A typical Weaver or Leupold will go between 16 and 18 ounces. The rings will add another 4 ounces.
So, if you are going to start out with 86 ounces, without the barrel and scope, you will be about 12 to 14 ounces too heavy for LV, but ok for HV..
You can't make a 21 1/4 inch LV profile much lighter than I do. So, your only choice would be to go with a much thinner profile if you wanted to shoot LV or Sporter.
Why is your Rifle so heavy??. It must have been built on a stock that was intended as part of a dedicated HV........jackie

Heavy

Jackie : Thanks for your reply. This is a gun I was looking at.It is listed in the classifieds. Was built by Bat on their Walnut/carbon fiber stock. Was told that the stock had a weight system. But seller did not say if he weighed it with the weight's still in or with them out. Really love the way it looks but if it won't make weight I will probably pass on it. I am just getting my feet wet in this sport. Yes I am hooked.
I am lookin into having a new gun built is the reason for the question. Again thanks for the info. Tony

Not too many LV stocks made with walnut, it's just too heavy. Most of the laminated wood/carbon fiber stocks being used today are made with either redwood or cedar, some balsa too I believe.
