Hello ' I'm a new member on the site but must let all my fellow veteran and active duty troops know I deeply respect and appreciate your service to country. I served with the 173d Airborne Brigade (Sep) in Vietnam and was twice wounded with the first being on the 8th of November on Hill 65 which Big & Rich recorded a song about titled,"The 8th of November".Three days after the battle,Veterans Day,on 11/Nov/1965 while I was recovering at the 3rd Field Hospital in Siagon General Westmoreland pinned on my 1st Purple Heart. So Veterans Day has more than one meaning to me...God bless America and her defenders !!......Dutch

Called one of my ole buddies this morning. Hes one of the battered basterds of bastogne 101 division. He said he didnt know what was worse the germans or the weather. I wasnt in but thanks guys and gals.

My family and myself thank all who served. My freedom means more to me than most other things in my life. i wasn't allowed to serve in 1993 due to childhood health issues, and i still feel the guilt after all these years. My Grandpa and father both saw terrible things in life while serving our country. Freedom and service is a way of life in my family, and i for one am very grateful!! Have a nice day gentlemen! GOD BLESS THE USA!!!! Lee

Your welcome.......... thanks to those who have stood, and those standing the watch on hostile ground..........oooooooRaaaahhhhhh

Doug..My first battalion commander when I served with the 1/503d Infantry 173d Airborne Brigade (Sep) made the parachute jump during Normandy then fought in Bastogne with the 101st Abn Division. He picked up the nickname of "Rawhide" while serving as our battalion CO so was called Colonel "Rawhide" Boland. Is that who you're refering too,if not ask your friend if he recalls Richard "Dick" Boland who was a private during his WW II tour with the Screamin' Eagles....Dutch
PS: Colonel Boland is doing well at 91 years of age and lives at the base of the Rockies in northern California, and he married his 49 year old housekeeper last year.....

I went to an amazingly good veterans parade today. It was wonderful but it made me remember how badly we were treated upon our return in 1969. I know it's silly but it still hurts.
