USA Sporter Class

For 2013, these are the proposed rules for the new USA Sporter class. The intent is to create a "shoot what you have" class. It should encompass many of the higher end air rifles that many shooters favor. Thank you Jim Cyran for your help on this and he is certain that scoring a .25 caliber pellet will not present any problems.

Any rifle with factory stock, barrel and trigger.
Any modifications to factory components are allowed.
.177, .20, .22 and .25 calibers are allowed.
All power plants are allowed, springer, SSP, MSP, CO2 and PCP.
Any power level is allowed.
Any weight rifle is allowed.
Scope is limited to 24X, variables must be set and not changed during the course of fire.
Fore end of stock must be 2.25 inches or less and not flat along the bottom.
Shooting will be off bags, a bi-pod or a mechanical rest where the adjustment knobs are not used during the course of fire.
International scoring rules will apply.
Target distance will be at the match director's discretion.

Steve,

This class is for those that have high end Daystates, AirArms and FXs. It should encompass a large segment of this type of air rifle while still being for factory, mass produced, not customized, guns.

I will be using an Evanix Speed that has been modified to a 16 fpe gun. It is showing some good promise. It has the typical Speed defect of not having the bolt fully retract, but Pyramyd Air provided me a fix, and my gunsmith is installing it. I hope to have it back next Saturday.

Will this be an additional class that will be offered at a usual match, a La the Sporter class in IR 50/50?

We hope so. It will give match directors a class for air rifles that seem very popular.

We will be dropping a rifle class or two that have not helped.

Chris,

Question on the .25 cal scoring. Are all cal. plugged with a .25 cal plug or pellet.

When will the start date be for turning in Scores for this class.

If fired from a bi-pod does the shape of the fore end matter. Seems that modifications to factory components would allow a flat fore end to be rounded if not wider than specified.

If the rifle has a accessory rail, can a rounded wood piece be added to the stock if it meets width requirement.

Me thinks that modifications to the factory equipment might allow all of the above.

Bob,

I have it on good authority that the .22 caliber plug is fine.

Start date will be 2013, we need to reach consensus on the rules.

Shooting with a bipod would make no difference, this is the reason we need sensible match directors. An accessory rail does not mean the bottom of the fore end is flat, another call for the match director.

Modifications to the factory equipment are allowable, so we are in agreement.

This class and USA Production relies on the good judgement of good people.

Well done, I'm trying something similar to this on centrefire rifles (shoot for score, anything up to 6mm, few restrictions, all cards marked with 6mm plug). Seems to have generated quite a bit of interest. Good Luck.

Just curious, how did you happen to choose 6MM as the criterion?

Hi Peter,

I forget to mention the target distance is 100yds.

We figured up to 6mm (.243) would cover the bulk of calibres used in the UK. The .223 being the most popular (as it probably is in the States) followed by the .243 Winchester. The league we are putting together is postal and we see many of the entrants as hunters and casual shooters rather than out and out target shooters, so wanted to avoid any of the more exotic calibres, many of which may not have clearance on the 100yd ranges around the UK.

It may develop into having to break the league into categories to separated the guy with a 6ppc from the guy with a .223 Savage, but for the initial season (September to January) we'll see how it goes.

You can find more information here if you're interested: https://www.facebook.com/Uk6mmPostalLeague

We have guys from Germany and Ireland taking part, so if you want to dust off that old 22-250 we'd be pleased to have you :)
