turret springs, Leupold Comp

I centered the reticle on my Leupold Comp scope today. The turrets seem to be easier to adjust (smoother perhaps) without the springs that were under the turret knobs. I have six turns lock to lock without the springs and only about 5 turns with the springs inside the turret knobs. Any reason NOT to leave these springs out of the assembly? Thanks in advance. bob

Just a WAG, but if they load the adjustment axially, away from the center of the scope, it could be that they are there to help remove any potential movement that can be traced to thread clearance by preloading them in the same direction as the erector tube bias springs. Do you need the extra range? If you centered the scope, it would seem that your intent is to keep it in the middle.

Yes, this springs were a add on after a year or so of production, as Boyd indicated, they are there to help take up any slack that would be present in the threads, by keeping them loaded one way at all times. Do not remove them......jackie
